Blew me away with the nose, then a small let down from palate to finish. Overall fantastic though
    • Nose

loads of yellow tropical fruits, kiwi, white pepper and oily, some bitter herbs, but not as complex as the nose. still beautiful
    • Finish

The best 1973 secret speyside I have ever tried.
    • Nose

Nose: Overdose of polished furniture, dried apricots, as well as Fuji apple and matured melon. So fragrant and perfect!
    • Taste
      95 95
Very sweet & elegant. Orange blossom, dried apple, rich trophical fruit & beewax. Never get bored with it.
    • Finish
      94 94
long with some drying oak and dried fruits. I can enjoy 15 ml for nearly 30 minutes.

    • Nose
Sour plums, gooseberries. Chenpi, with strong air dried aroma, like sour dried prune, rich apricot. Vanilla, canned pineapples, dried mangoes, dried sweet potatoes. Honey, floral with special woody note. Lemon zest. Salty nut with citrus zest. Hay. Earth from the bottom. More mandarin zest after a sip, dried date and hay left in the emptied glass.
    • Taste
Highly rich yellow fruit with a bit orange jam. Pineapples, apricots, mangoes, pear with peel, then a lot of apples with mild spiciness. Med to low oily, only gets more oily until its waxy. Not-so-sweet green melon with honey. When the sweetness dropped, honey green tea appeared. Ended with light nuts.
    • Finish
Green melon with honey. Roasted melon seeds, nutty, tongue felt slightly dry. Pears with peel, yellow fruit jam.
Very mild pepper, almost not spicy. Elegant wood and vanilla with condensed sweetness left.

From a 4 years old half sample. I compared my notes and it didn't change... but I did. I'm now more opened to this kind of profile. Maybe just a bit too syrupy for me but excellent whisky anyway.
    • Nose
Vibrant. Honey and fruits. Apricots (dried and fresh), dates, raisins, tropical fruits jam. Precious woods, hints of coconuts. Mint and herbal notes. A few spices.
    • Taste
Juicy, almost syrupy, waxy and fruity. Mentholated notes strike first then oranges and precious woods notes again. Spices, tobacco, dark chocolate and coffee.
With water, fresh wood and red fruits on the nose, red fruits syrup on the palate.
    • Finish
Long, spices, fruits syrup and lingering mentholated notes. Drying.

Superb Speyside. Glenfarclas? Benriach? Caperdonnich? Hard to know.
It is superbly fruity from start to finish.
    The mouth is simply addictive.
    • Nose
      92 92
Very nice influence from the fino.
Lots of fruit as often with these Speysides.
A very nice juicy apple, apricot, peach. Canned pineapple, light candied lychee. Coconut.
      A touch of jasmine.
      Young wood, paint solvent.
      Very light motor oil
    • Taste
      94 94
In the mouth it is creamy.
Superb fruit salad. Pineapple, papaya, mango, passion fruit, peach, apricot, plum.
It's wonderfull. The fade is exemplary.
Milk chocolate, black pepper, wood, cinnamon.
    • Finish
      92 92
Long finish on fruit jam salad, vanilla sugar, wood, solvent, coconut, black pepper.
We feel the influence of the barrel. Light caramel.

  9. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Very fruity not as tropical as the maltbarns but still very good

  10. dRambo scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

excellent fruit bomb nose - super intense, super dense, super complex and still lively pulsating, even the initial slight missing notes are gone after a few minutes and it is flawless and delicious in the glass
Compared to all other Speysiderers from 73/75 that I have tried so far, this one is sweeter, the fruits are a little darker - only the 1975 Zanzibar with the black label also goes in this direction but has significantly more peach notes - where this one also has mango , Orange and quince offers - the 73s of the following years were more acidic for me and have more lemons and pineapples
    • Nose
      95 95
tart German peaches from the garden, orange wedges, apricot jam, a hint of wax, a little acetone - but does not bother, green branches, tree sap, fresh hay, a lot of sweet very ripe dried fruit, dried mango, papaya, pineapple, currants, coconut cream, sweet lemon , crystalline sugared lemon
    • Taste
      94 94
a drop on the tongue unfolds massively - sweet fruit, old dusty wood, very oily - very noble appearance, super clean
All exotic fruits from the nose can be found on the palate, appear sweeter than in the nose, but there is also a pleasant acidity as the opposite pole.
Anise, ginger, fine creamy wood aromas, some muesli, cornflakes, malt
    • Finish
      92 92
Ginger, oatmeal cookies with vanilla, fading fruit aromas, a waxy-oily, long-lasting film of aromas is on the tongue - a little over medium-long

Have had the bottle open several months now - it just keeps getting better - not necessarily due to bottle being open per se or oxidation etc, but because I have been able to spend more time with the whisky, detect the nuances, savour all the flavours - this is just excellent, complex, fruity, tertiary, fresh, old speyside whisky. Superb.

What makes this malt is integration and balance. Even in the nose shows a tremendous variety of flavors, without that at any time anything would distract attention. This continues in the mouth until the finish. Fantastic! Not so far from the perfect malt ...
    • Nose
Immediately after pouring unripe peaches and some grass with glue. After a few moments, the nose becomes much denser, the glue goes, the peaches are more mature and a good portion of furniture polish lies over it, waxy and slightly sour. Fruit punch and caramel sweets, slightly buttery. After a good half hour of use, the peaches have mutated into compote, the furniture polish pushed back strongly and delicate herbal notes and ideas of wild garlic complement the rather powerful bouquet. Blood oranges, some barrel acid, dried fruits (dates) and even a trace of malt. Exercise makes the peaches even juicier, brings out a few splashes of lemon juice and honey and beeswax are heavy and sweet underneath. Floor wax, dusty cellar. Satisfied, sweet and fruity with a bite, I would describe the nose in summary, while the notes present themselves as a harmoniously connected whole, but can also readily divide apart. After a very long life it looks even riper, sweeter and juicier, but the other flavors are still very strong. What impresses most is this perfect integration. Warm, fresh flavors are added, buttery fruit sweets, pancake with redcurrant jelly, butterfudge with raisins, unbelievable, what associations this malt evokes!
    • Taste
Warm, dense and oily, it spreads in the mouth, all flavors are present, everything is fully integrated and takes some time to be isolated in the mouth around. First different fruits with a little dark honey, then come the herbal notes, the barrel floats over it. Pepper, pleasantly dark, malty sweetness, defined herbs, spices, simply sensational.
    • Finish
Also in the finish everything is still available. Slowly it fades away warming, first with a focus on tart herbs and a pinch of menthol, then it is slightly sweet, in the end, an association of butternut squash remains present for a very long time.

N- Frizzy soda, vibrant, coconut candy. Perfum-y, mandarin orange,
orange. Mellow old dram with admirable strength. A fruit bomb with soft
    fine herbs.

P- Buzzling, a nectar with obvious fruits peels
with restrain bitterness. Strawberry jam, marmalade, almond custards. An
    elixir for fruity dram lover.

F- Long, medium dry, warming. Melt in your mouth panna cotta. Juicy and
creamy with fine weight and peppery oak spices. Hit all the right
notes, delicious, but just, a wee too fruity.

Speyside Region 1975 Fino Sansibar and 1973 TWA.

Two very nice nose, more tart for the Fino, more greedy for the TWA. In the mouth, the Sansibar is drier. It's easy to say with the label under the eyes, but the influence of Fino is clear. The TWA is here even more greedy, more voluptuous but perhaps less complex. The finals are long, quite woody / tannic but without that becoming annoying.

In short, two very nice Speysides. I had a slight preference for the TWA because during the first tasting of the sample, the Fino seemed to me more woody and bitter, but it was very nicely opened after a few weeks.

    TWA: 91/100
    Sansibar: 92/100

The expectations were huge but for me the best whisky I have had and my "perfect" whisky so far.
    • Nose
43 years of course the nose should be good as there are so many facets. And yes it is hilarious!

A lot of beeswax, honey, apple/pear, dates, alcohol just perfect impkemented
    • Taste
sticky like real honey, dates are there all in all very juice so oranges. A high complexity and the dram is just a lot of fun. Too much fun haha
    • Finish
a bit of mint but mainly honey remains for "hours". The bitterness of these old drams is not existing and the search on any possible failure is difficult :-)

Recently I got my hands on a Caperdonich 1972 38yo "The Perfect Dram" also from the whisky agency and I must say that this Speyside Region 1973 comes really close to it in terms of fruitiness and character. Thus my best guess would be that this is a Caperdonich fruit bomb as well.

    Nose:
Sweet. Honey, dates, hints of figs. Dried fruits in general. conduct something oak.

    Mouth:
What is immediately noticeable is this
mouthfeel. Or the mouth "haptics". Kind of like a heavy rum. Maybe also comparable to freshly spun honey: creamy, creamy, oily. malt candies. The taste is clear in the
sweet direction. Fruity. Apricots, but ripe plums
mainly dried fruit. Date banana chutney. Some oak.

Finish: The honey sweetness lasts incredibly long.
    The perfect whiskey for me.

    Point.

Too bad the distillery remains hidden.

Speyside Region 43 yo 1973 (49,2%, The Whisky Agency ‘Good Vibes’ 2016, sherry butt, 324 btl.)

Nose: oh so fragrant! I love the overdose of polished furniture – I think sandalwood. Humidor, yes. Also quince jelly, orange skin, dried apricots, as well as light tropical notes and red berries. Hints of cardamom and oriental pastries. Oily, rather dry, just wonderful. Mouth: surprisingly bright and rather sweet, with a lot of minty / mentholated notes alongside the dried fruits. Plenty of beeswax again. Then a burst of fresh oranges and orange blossom water, before returning to eucalyptus and polished wood. Hints of old Calvados. Light mocha. Finish: long, with some drying oak but also dried fruits.

Difficult to choose. Actually both profiles are pretty close together – we already know the type of sherry doesn’t matter much after so many years. I’ll have give them the same score but I would pick this as my favourite of these recent undisclosed Speysiders. Around € 370.

    Score: 93/100

Luscious, absolutely luscious - especially on the nose but the rest isn't much behind. Just crazy that a distillery gave it away as "no name". However, if you have the opportunity you should get your hands on it.
    • Nose
Fresh, rich, complex, sweet, sticky honey, tropical fruits, passion fruit, mango, citrus fruits, oranges, apricots, william pears, also some dried fruits - it's a whole fruit basket - Superb!
    • Taste
Extremely oily, thick, smooth but also a bit punchy, creamy flavors of fruits, nice oak wood and right level of sweetness, apricots and orange jam, creme brulee, cookies, and much more - really good!
    • Finish
Long and warm, still fruity and sticky until the very end. Nice zesty notes coming up.

Smell: intense honey and Südfüchte, balsamic, a great nose, sweet fruity, complex, impressive, which over the years from an oak barrel everything can be brought out.

Taste: Big compliment to the monitoring of The Whisky Agency, I beahupte times the barrel was maxed out to the last minute, but not overwrought.
Wonderfully intense honey with dried fruits such as raisins, dates, figs, but also exotic fruits like mangos. At the very end comes the barrel influence with a bit of bitterness than tart, nutty and also in the form wanted finish.

Finish: After the nutty bitter has faded at the end, the fruity sweetness remains for a long time as a reverberation in the mouth. In addition, now shows a malty, sweet taste of caramel, which is certainly due to the distillate and has nothing to do with the barrel. It was a great barrel, a barrel, that there are only 1x under 1000 barrels.

Verdict: Simply delicious, in times of rising prices are 370, - € for a 43J almost a bargain. The intensity, the balance of the taste components are almost perfect. It might have fit into one or the other component, such as smoke or chocolate. I give 95P for this composition
