An oldschool style blend from Alexander Murray. Made up from a mostly malt, and some grain style similar to the old 70's blends.... I used to see this for $199 USD and always though why bother I'd drink Johnnie Blue at that price.

When I found a deal on the bottles, I though I'd take a flyer and try it out... turns out I've been bad-mouthing the wrong whisky. Turns out it's a fantastic blend... I just wish it was 46%. I think it needs a slight bump in the ABV to make it stellar.

Fruity, fruit bomb with some machine oil notes. Cherry tannins and subtle smoke, meaty notes and hints of mint. Wow, this has some serious layers to get into. Herbal notes, dark sweet oak, mandarins... maybe dried mandarins. There's a lot ogin on and it's a slower dram to unfold, camphor and orange creme anglaise with some more depth and some subtle peaty notes.

Okay, that's a rocket load of smells, the palate is a little more subtle than the nose. This is where I think the ABV wouldbe nice in the 46-50% range. More of that pork fat, clemetine, tea leaves, smoke and dough. It's a very layered dram, sort of stodgy but also there's a running meatiness to it... Mortlach. The percentage of Malt in this dram really shows through here. There's a much larger percentage of malt that something run-of-the-mill like Johnnie or Bells or such.
    • Finish

This is the downside the dram, the finish is long, but not as cohesive as something like Blue label or Grouse 30. It's still oaky and drawn out, sweets and smoke, the meaty notes become fatty and richer. Then as quickly as this long finish starts... it draws up the curtains and it's gone. It just doesn't last long enough...
