- Some of the nose's themes are quite uncommon and deserve attention. The finish is a very nice sum up of the whole profile, with this generous oiliness and the good length. Besides that, not a super memorable malt.
First some comté cheese (really ! of the light kind), then malt, and then a lot of creamy butterscotch. This becomes the main theme from then on, with a little strawberry as well, slightly chemical in nature but not disturbingly so. It has a greasy, oily character that would almost evoke a non-peated Ledaig 10 OB (without being a Tobermory 10 OB though :P).
Rapid alcoholic crescendo, not super balanced on that regard, with pepper, then settling on the butterscotch - strawberry duo. Not bad, not super great either. Water does not help with alcohol integration.
Very good here actually, greasy, fatty, caramelised, creamy. Even a slight strawberry twist makes its come back. Some caramelised peanuts maybe ? Good length.
A very nice and light combinaton of sherry, sultana's, nuts, chocolat, alcohol and the soft sea air surrounding the Isle of Arran.
Light creamy body with a fruity sweetness and some citrus I missed in the nose. More sherry influence and spices on the palate now. Complex and very chewy drying out in the end with a little bitterness.
Long mouthcoating finish.
- I visited the Arran Distillery yesterday and had a free dram of this great 19yo well balanced single cask scoth whisky, so it was a must to buy a bottle of it.
It is so smooth that you can drink it even without water at cask strength of 53,7%.
Well done Arran!
