A very successful single cask from the crew Valinch series by Bruichladdich! For such a long maturation in the sweet-wine barrel, some facets are surprisingly dry and the fruitiness is not as clear as with other Bruichladdich from Sauternes barrels. Nevertheless unmistakable and a pleasure for me as a friend of (maturing) maturation in these barrels. With a splash of water he likes me, unusually for me, best.
    • Nose
Sweet and fresh with malty cereal notes and fresh vanilla biscuits. As far as typical Bruichladdich. In particular, I find that both the initial maturation in the ex-Bourbon barrel, as well as the maturation in Sauternesfass very differentiated perceptible. Vanilla, honey sweetness, caramel, pineapple and mango come from the Bourbon barrel. Later comes creamy and very sweet wine note, the Sauternes is there. Green apple, honeydew melon and caramelized sugar. Behind it lies, well concealed but unmistakably a surprisingly strong spice of pepper and noticeable alcohol influence. With a little water, it becomes even sweeter, milder and the spice goes back. The aromas are complemented by apple rings (Haribo!) And Toffifee.
    • Taste
Soft and reserved at first, caramel, light fruit notes and some vanilla pastry dominate first. The Bruichladdich often very pronounced "oiliness" in the mouth does not want to adjust quite. After a few moments on the tongue, it becomes peppery and intense. Wow, that comes unexpectedly and almost reminds of Talisker. With water, the heat goes back and it is creamy and softer, even the missing oiliness in the mouth is then a bit far
    • Finish
When the sharp start on the tongue vanishes, the medium-long finish begins. First with soft coffee notes and fine bitterness, which after a few years in a wine barrel to good sound. Then the fruits reappear: honeydew melon, applesauce, dried apricots and mangos. At the end of the departure he becomes drier again.
