[November, 2019] I do not like most of the Dalmore original bottlings because they are (mostly) too much on the winey side and missing the joys of the malt to a large extend - but this IB release seems to be different...

...and indeed, it is. Not much sherry influence here and the neat dram is very shy but it opens up greatly upon reduction (this is a three points difference in all dimensions). So if you drink all your drams neat only you will miss the best flavours with this one.
    • Nose
      90 90
The colour is yellow gold and the nose offers a rather shy profile first (even out of a big spheric blender's glass) with significant wooden impressions beside grassy-floral notes. This is not impressive at all, maybe some breathing time helps. No, not really - but some water opens up the nose nicely releasing marzipan, blood oranges and more tasty aromas. I had the neat nose at 87 points only but the reduced one is good for 90.
    • Taste
      91 91
The taste is based on grassy and autumn floral flavours with sweet barley sugars and later some sour-sweet winey notes. The spices are delicious and the wood is absolutely appropriate, I was in fear of much more wood dominance from the nosing impressions. This dram is nicely chewable and it releases more sweeter flavours this way which are very welcomed.
    • Finish
      90 90
The initial mouthfeel is warming with peppery moments and a nice but minor coating effect. The finish is long and adds notes of citric fruits (lime) before the waxes take over towards the end. There are some minor drying moments towards the end that are not distracting at all. Water turns the taste smoother and more delicious with chocolatey and fruity notes, actually this dram benefits from a reduction in all dimensions greatly.

Well, obviously, given the glowing comments I read, I had to miss something. Perhaps blinded, was I, by etiquette? Too many expectations? Enthusiasm: Nose: 4/5 Mouth and finish: 2/5
    • Nose
Very long to open. A little fruity, a little malty, its maturity is not displayed. On the contrary, it is rather dynamic, with a nice minty freshness. The fruits unfold as well as a beautiful woody, witness of the age - finally.
    • Taste
Intense, malty. The promised fruits are not revealed even with water. A little aggressive, even.
    • Finish
Rather dry, and always a little unbalanced.

Tried with a few drops of water.
The nose is very light, not much of anything to be honest.
I found this very dry on the palate at first and very little sweetness from the fruit either.
There is some fruit in the mix, touch of pineapple, green plum but its faint.
I also think this is on the rough side, just a touch but it lacks balance for me.
Not sure about the finish, there is a warm feeling in the back of your throat for ages but there is very little taste.
However it you leave in your glass and go back to it, the air does improve things but the balance is not there for me, it is too hot to be really enjoyable.

A dram in 2 steps, spicy then more on the maderized side, to leave air a time!
2nd, wood, herbs, citrus !! and a little dust.
    • Nose
gingerbread, currants, malt and vanilla plus spices!
2nd: bouquet of various scents after aeration !!
    • Taste
floral scent, sweet minty, then macerated grapes with frank, strong attack.
The candied lemon and tangerine are added, in addition to a dry woody return of hazelnuts.
2nd: spices !! , then strong wood (we feel the inside of the barrel!), citrus fruits on peach and pear a little candied, it's sweet, a little honeyed.
    • Finish
woody, on the candied fruits, the honeyed side is also apparent.

It's after enjoying a dram such as this one that we say that Dalmore really misses wonders at the point of unnecessary reduction. A fruity whisky and really very nice as a whole. No false notes, a real success.
    • Nose
The first volatile notes on lemon and mint. These gradually give way to a wonderfully fruity nose on white fruits, pear, white grapes. After a few moments it becomes even more greedy on apricot pie and orange jam.
    • Taste
A light attack, alcohol (56.3%) is very well integrated. The mouth is oily, first of all in the continuity of the nose on the white fruits and the orange. In the middle of the mouth the woody appears on spices and oak. Fresh fruits are back at the end. A beautiful complexity.
    • Finish
A medium-length finish, woody, mineral and salty.

Nice Dalmore. Nutty and citrus throughout for ridiculously low retail considering what a comparable distillery bottling would go for of the same age, and at a lower strength as well.
