Whisky Reviews for White Oak Akashi Meïsei

One of the worst Japanese blend I tried to date. However it should be consumed with soda water, mizuwari style

    Woody
Eigashima – aka as White Oak – Distillery produces only 2 months per year, so there is not a lot of output. The rest of the year is dedicated to the production of sake and shochu. This Akashi Meïsei is a blend.
The nose is very light, quite woody and mildly spicy, but in all honesty has nothing to offer.
On the palate, it shows a lot of wood. That is joined by some vanilla, plum liqueur, woodsmoke and vanilla. Reminds me somewhat of a breakfast pastry on Sunday morning, one with a candied apricot in it. Far from grand, but not half bad either.
The finish is disappointingly short on wood shavings and nutmeg.
This is only my third whisky from Eigashima, but without a doubt the least of the trio. Easily forgotten.

A Japanese blend (malt & grain) with a rather poor and indistinct nose. Fruity? Ditto for the mouth that releases however a certain freshness. Dispensable.

    Enthusiasm 1/5

On the nose, oak, vanilla and fine spices, not too present!
On the palate, there is the ubiquitous wood side, all in roundness with spices that combine with the vanilla scent that we have in pastry!
In the finale, the same feeling of scents, with more persistent spices on the return.
Note, one of the oldest Japanese distilleries!

It's NAS blended whisky. Price wise, I would rather pay for a bottle of JW Black.
    • Nose
Very subtle, hint of fruitiness, no smoke
    • Taste
Slightly spicy, a bit of sweetness, little bit of vanilla
    • Finish
Medium finish, and the dryness comes in after few seconds.
