  1. JoshNRW scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Once again a nice bottling of the SMWS - I rarely find bad whiskys here. It has to be said that these are 90 percent clean whiskys with character that reflect the character of a distillery well.

This whisky is very consistent, between 87.5 and 89 points. A powerful pleasure whisky for 100 euros if you don't want to go on a journey of discovery and are looking for a distinctive 18-year-old.

The first nose is clean, the alcohol is well integrated, the age is properly reflected and there is even a slight oiliness.
I only smell the 2nd fill sherry in the slight acidity in the background.

Only after 20 minutes does the slight sherry influence of sweet red fruits emerge. There is definitely a lot of distillery character there.
For me, the strength of this whisky lies in its good structure, harmony and intensity. The flavors are rather subtle and unspectacular, but no disappointment.

With water, the oak of the 18 years also comes up against the alcohol. A super whisky that constantly leads through its key data without having to hit the shit anywhere,

Decent start with a good mix of the bourbon cask and the sherry aging. Here rather light fruits on the palate.

With water it becomes rounder, does not lose intensity and I like it better that way.
      Has a slightly dry transition.
    • Finish
      88 88
The mouthfeel is good, again slightly oily and overall rather strong. The finish is medium long and dry at the end.
