      fine light to medium body,
beautiful balanced aromas of slightly sweetness, a little sharpness, a little wood and peat, delicate herbs, flower syrup, morning dew

Nose: rotten vegetables, burning embers on the beach, light hint of honey

Palate: smoked lemons, over-cooked spinach, a bit of salted fish

Finish: short-medium, very salty, dry, a dash of citrus

Overall: not your typical Caol Ila profile, higher proof does help a bit, decent daily sipper

I don't quite know how to feel about this whisky. Although it checks all the boxes, it didn't really do anything for me. The only Port Askaig I had before was the 100 proof and to be honest; I'd prefer that one every day of the week.
    • Nose
Initial peat, fresh citrus notes, hay and some coastal zest. Some iodine. Pretty middle of the road for a coastal/Islay malt but still a very pleasant smell.
    • Taste
From the bat a definite zesty, somewhat acidic citrus note, very lively. Also some brine and peat, and very clearly some oaky spicyness. Some nutiness appears (peanuts) and a distant, hard to define sweetness.
    • Finish
The oaky spicyness continues and lingers, as well as a strange sweet/sour citrus flavour. A little dry on the finish.

Note by Speciality Drinks Ltd;Initial light fruity aromas give way to an elegant sweet honeyed nose that precedes a powerful peaty and wood smoked palate with salty coastal notes. The mellow, lingering finish is considered a key character of older single Islay malt whiskies from this part of Islay.

there`s a few off notes, but I like how fresh this feels in the
beginning despite the strong peat, leather & earth notes. Not a fan
of it when I tried to give it time to breathe...

Transferring previous Note (2012.01.25) content into a Tasting Note.
    • Nose
fresh, peat, grey leather, wet earth, lemon, salt, slightly yeasty,
sand-y/mineral, hay ( & horsepiss, but that`s actually not as bad as
      it sounds... ) (87)
    • Taste
peat, malt sweetness, peanuts (snickers...?), granite, (85)
    • Finish
more peat, some salt, sprinkles of lemon, slight but pleasant bitterness, (84)
      Later:
seem to turn flat within a short-ish time and develops some weird
sawdust on the palate (64), rubber & white (pineapple) gummybear
notes in the finish. (67) ... yes, I don`t like white gummybears!
