[March, 2019] A quick review of a small sample...

...that represents a whisky style that is long gone, unfortunately. Compare this to today's under-aged modern whiskies and you easily recognise the difference: This dram is well-matured and nicely balanced despite its young age without any of these modern "cheap thrills" like excessive woods or peating levels that should mask today's usually immature spirit (at this age). Sorry folks, but I am an old-fashioned guy...
    • Nose
      89 89
The colour is yellow gold and the nose offers a very old-stylish profile with lots of honeys, vanilla-toffee, leathery, earthy and some slightly perfumy (not in a bad way) as well as OBF aromas. It is much more complex than 99 per cent of today's eight-years old modern whiskies, maybe they added some older stuff to this batch (which was quite common back then) or the mysterious bottle maturation improved it further. Pretty nice, I like it!
    • Taste
      89 89
The taste is old-stylish too on an adorable crème brûlée with a honey-nutty-minty topping. Later more spices pep up this profile further, additional layers provide interesting leathery and mocha flavours. No flaw or imbalance and very quaffable, for sure... Water releases more leathery and earthy aromas in the nose and a chocolatey note on the palate - I like this dram both neat and a little reduced.
    • Finish
      88 88
The dram arrives warming and nicely coating on the palate with a minor drying moment (cold metal) that I rather like. The finish is medium to long and adds this minor perfumy flavour again that is not distracting. The drying metallic feeling pops up towards the very end and again I like this (it is often a trademark characteristic of such old-style drams).
