For me a great Islay beginner's malt, not very complex but with quite a nice aroma. Top PLV from me is a Like! 86+ points You could play with water, but I do not want to ;-)
    • Nose
beautiful warm smoke flows directly from the glass, the alcohol is at least the nose very well integrated and stands out in no way. The basic flavor is a slightly sweet earthy scent that makes me think of a peat fire in a meadow. Gentle Heunoten, after some time also the classical ex-Bourbon notes after citrus and soft American oak. The nose is from minute to minute complacent, very pleasant. After the first sip much sweeter and more fruity
    • Taste
The key starts off cautiously with woody flavors, but is killed directly by the earthy warm smoke. The 58% are noticeable on the tongue and conjure up a chili-catch. If you pull this through and let it go further in the mouth, the softer sweet citrus flavors even come through. Official entrance
    • Finish
The finish is beautiful long and dry, the mouth is completely filled and warms the throat, then come herbier herbesernoten by the more restrained smoke, even neat barrel is available

i have this bottle and also lagavulin 12 cask strength. I taste resemblance for sure, but the official laga is (ofcourse) better balanced, less raw.

  3. Captain.Islay scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

An uncomplicated young smoker, sweet and sour, some fruit and a long finish, enough dilution reserve, recommended

Sweet peat smoke, peppercorns, lime, sour cream, grapefruit
    • Taste

With water: Oily, sour-candied smoked gummy bears, some ginger, peat smoke, lime zest
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long - long, some pipe tobacco, peat smoke, malt candy, some ashes

Unique combination of smoke, coal and ashes, or cigarettes - surely something different from lets say Ardbeg smoke or Laphroaig disinfection style. Interesting and original.
    • Nose
Smoked meat, smoke, some synthetics, more like coal and ash.
    • Taste
Smoked meat, coal, smoke. After a while, ash or cigarettes. Peat is somewhere in the back.
    • Finish
Longer, coal smokey. No overkill compared to say As we get it.

If you love peated whiskies and you're on a budget, this is one hell of a cask strength peat bomb.
    • Nose
Peat, because, duh. But fairly sweet overall, with plenty of vanilla extract and a bit of smoked marzipan (is that a thing?), but also touches of licorice and brown sugar. Finally there's a whiff of cured meat as well.
    • Taste
Yep, sweet arrival here too (cherry syrup). Intense peat smoke and even a bit of iodine, followed by ashes and fresh ginger. Somewhat chalky, and pretty salty.
    • Finish
      Drying. Peat and spices. Long.

No wonder but solid and the price is very fair.
    • Nose
Smoke. Less strong than expected. But intense. Burnt hay. Apricot. Earthy. Alcoholic freshness. Vanilla.
    • Taste
Nice sweetish smoky. When swallowing, the 58% are noticeable on the palate and on the tongue.
    • Finish
      Long earthy, slightly tart finish.

Even though it might become a bit boring at some point, in this price range this is still a recommendable whisky when you're looking for something uncomplicatedly peaty. It's sweeter than the old version (41037), which perhaps makes it more likeable.
    • Nose
      84 84
Peat with a lot of sweetness. Vanilla sugar, apple and gooseberry. With water a light maltiness comes out.
    • Taste
      85 85
Peat, white grape, gooseberry and gingerbread. With water some anise and somewhat acerb.
    • Finish
      84 84
Peat, white grape, dark chocolate and apple.

  10. Cubey666 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Rather heavy initially on the alcohol, but on the second sniff you are used to it. A rather traditional Islay nose and taste, peat smoke, citrus, bit sweet honey notes and some ash. Nothing to spectacular or surprising, but it does it thing quite well. The finish is however a bit on the short side.
