For me a great Islay beginner's malt, not very complex but with quite a nice aroma. Top PLV from me is a Like! 86+ points You could play with water, but I do not want to ;-)
    • Nose
beautiful warm smoke flows directly from the glass, the alcohol is at least the nose very well integrated and stands out in no way. The basic flavor is a slightly sweet earthy scent that makes me think of a peat fire in a meadow. Gentle Heunoten, after some time also the classical ex-Bourbon notes after citrus and soft American oak. The nose is from minute to minute complacent, very pleasant. After the first sip much sweeter and more fruity
    • Taste
The key starts off cautiously with woody flavors, but is killed directly by the earthy warm smoke. The 58% are noticeable on the tongue and conjure up a chili-catch. If you pull this through and let it go further in the mouth, the softer sweet citrus flavors even come through. Official entrance
    • Finish
The finish is beautiful long and dry, the mouth is completely filled and warms the throat, then come herbier herbesernoten by the more restrained smoke, even neat barrel is available

i have this bottle and also lagavulin 12 cask strength. I taste resemblance for sure, but the official laga is (ofcourse) better balanced, less raw.

N: phenolic peat smoke (duh), some maritime notes, bit of a vanilla, spices and honey, the 58% alcohol is not noticable
    it's masked by the smoke

P: Kicks off with some wood notes but then the smoke follows it quite instantly with some burnt bacon, leather and that's followed by a chili'catch from the abv on the tip and the middle of your tongue but after that's gone sweetness bursts out with vanilla, honey and some citrus notes

F: the aftertaste is long and dry, malt sweetness and citrus with some salt

Overall thoughts: For 58% it is quite rounded and full, pleasant. I'd recommend it. For the price (30-40) it's quite tasty.

Pete Ham doesn't poke his nose as much as I thought.
    Slight bitterness from underaged spirits
    burnt wood incense
It felt pretty refined for CS.
It feels like firewood, in my standards, it seems to have a bit of a grain with ragavulin.
Spicy pitts from laproe, Baumore for smoked paper, and Ardbeck for smoked bacon.
I think I read an article that said it was like the Smokey Scott cs version, but it has a completely different feeling.

A slight savory taste finishes it off.

In spite of its strength, the nose is quite unimpressive and hidden, be it neat or diluted. Taste and finish deliver, though. One point up for the price/performance ratio.
    • Nose
sweet drier smoke, hazelnuts, dark chocolate, honey steak, omelette, apricot kefir, bananas, DILUTED: more metallic, chewing gum
    • Taste
fruit mixture, sweeter, plums, soil, strong smoke, ginger, DILUTED: not much changed, smoke overshadows everything
    • Finish
smoke, strong omelette, pepper, sea salt, coastal pebbles, DILUTED: locust bean sandwich, mint, hashlers
