There is some of the recognisible laphy profile but even at 40% this is too tame to be interesting, weak is the only way to describec this.

To start: Laphroaig 10 years old is my favorite whisky in the whole world. Well, Octomore is, but my bank account doesn’t like Octomore... So, this Select here, s quite disappointing. This is nowhere near the Laphroaig I want to experience. There is no peat. Far away there is some hint if smoke, but tar is prevalent. This dram even is somewhat sweet! The overall impression is “tar”, the tar your father told you to put on the wooden fence. It drinks away easy, on the other hand. But I will never buy it again. Smoke rules the world, and long live King Peat!
    • Nose
Alcohol penetrates the nose, and then there is tar. That’s all.
    • Taste
      Tar. Sweet, honey.
    • Finish
      Some tar, sweetness, no greatness.

Tobacco, a little leather, a little medicinal, but not exceptional.
    • Taste
      79 79
Not unfriendly, but it lacks body.
A bit of everything. A little smoke, a little sweet ...
    • Finish
      76 76
The finish is gone in no time.
A bit of a mint with some sweet smoke that lingers, but again not exceptional. Anyway short.

Classic Laphroaig where smoking and turbidity dominate the nose, palate and finish. I find no notes other than these two, with smoking prevailing over turbidity. Very short finish with a sweet note. Nothing unforgettable.

banana, toffee aroma. I got an oily, light smokey pleasant after taste and the taste was mild orange.

N- Introductory dram for those new to Laphroaig, so relatively light and easy. Diesel, virgin oak oozing with liquorice, ashy wild petals, sweet, grassy with some coastal funks. Baked buttery pasties crust, milk and some berries. Good start. (86/20)

P- Sweet and grassy tone were amplified under the thin and watery body. Soft kaffir lime peel for some needing dryness but almost anonymous if not for the trademark iodine and spicy ginger lingers. (82/17)

F- Short-medium, gingery but lack the warmness that suppose to come with it, spicy and chewy with medicinal and iodine note. Oh, also the grassiness. (84/18)

B/B- 82/17 Wee thin, some muscle would be nicer.

    Cr-1, Fr-2, Fl-1, Pt-3, Ft-0, Sp-0, Wd-1, Wn-1, Sc-2

    Weighted Rate- 72pt

Nose: Typical of a Laphroaig but with a lighter peat. Leather notes, rubber. Pretty promising

Mouth: it is hardly if we perceive the flavors promised by the nose as the whisky lacks taste. Disappointment.

    Final: Non-existent

This whisky suffers from the comparison with the 10 years that offers him a great value for money. In summary: to feel but not to drink. Rating 75/100

Ok, but buy the 10 year old or Quarter cask if priced similarly
    • Nose
      23 -typical Laphroaig
    • Taste
      20 - just short of the 10
    • Finish
19 - not as long as the 10, a wee bit bitter

[October, 2015]  I had this dram during an "Laphroaig Bicentenary" tasting at Bonn.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.  My notes state a fruity bourbon profile on vanilla and banana aromas.  I added "not too bad..."
