    "old" bowmore:
exotic sweetness on the palate: it is very fruity, very colorful, the spices are barely present.
the fine smoke, a little salt, a little grass on the violet
on the palate, a little disappointment, it's a little watery, the fruits yield a bit of ground, there are woods, herbs again and the smoke barely noticeable
the finish is simple and basic considering the excellent nose.

    mmh, I like them indeed
    • Nose
    • Finish
      lang
schokoladig weich fast wie eine Praline
      sehr edle Aprikosensüße
      dann kommt etwas Malz
      eine Prise Kräuter
      zarte Malzsüße mit kakao
      Salz mischt sich unter
      es wird maritim

Mushroom broth, dead mice, glue and rotten vegetables ... the blender glass does not fit (it conveys the unpleasant notes of the old bottle too much) ... after standing better, fruits and raw earth and old lube appeared ...
    Fruit, ash, oil and citrus
Spicy finish, citrus and wax, wood ... burnt match, salt
Balance? Considering a spoiled nose? Well, I don’t know ... without an assessment ... well, what a bad luck
    Go

  4. St. Pauli scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A superb nose, at a level that can't be met in the palate, and to a lesser extent the finish. Nevertheless it it a classical Bowmore from the '70s (distillate), which is a sign of quality.
    • Nose
The nose is so delicate, what a surprise. It has a dirty side of gasoline and various oil products, but it's also fresh and fruity on apple and rhubarb. Gradually, licorice root and heather come into play, with chamomile tea. Then, coconut shaving, salty air and breakfast cereal.
    • Taste
Oily and delicate, not overpowering. The earthy and dirty side is less present, but still there. Fruity melon enters, together with apple juice and vanilla. Herbal tea complements the palate.
    • Finish
A bit earthier and a tad sooty, with more saline peat influence. Further: licorice allsorts, melon, allspice and herbal tea.

    sample.

Nice subtle peat. Might not be peaty enough for the die hard peat zealots, but for me this is just about right.
    • Nose
Initially fruity, with some nice apple notes. Strong honey note coming through with a little bit of barley. Hay and raw wool. Slightly earthy but other than that there is not much peat going on. Now a little bit of salt and that's it. Very subtle peat here. Nice.
    • Taste
Soft arrival, oily. A tiny bit of fruit. Then in the development, you get good note of salty fudge. Also there is some seriously good note of engine oil. More herbal notes towards the end with a nice ashy character.
    • Finish
Short to medium. Strong notes of bitter herbs with some Schweppes in the mix. Maritime after taste.

I have tasted a few of these and they are high quality, this one is more fruity than peaty.
    • Nose
Lovely nose, fruity on plum, rhubarb and peach. There is also brine mixed with faint peat and pineapple
    • Taste
Creamy, sugary on restrained peat and fruit with a little bitterness. Very faint coffee hints and caramel cream.
    • Finish
      Medium length on sugary sweetness

    whiskyfun:

Bowmore 12 yo (43%, Dumpy Golden Label, 1970’s) Nose: very briny, sea air, tropical fruit, lots of flowery notes and lots of peat. How great! And no ‘perfumy’ notes at all! Mouth: sweet, ‘good’ caramel, café latte, peat, milk chocolate. Very ‘slippery’, says Davin, and he adds: “This whisky was made by somebody who wasn’t only in it for the money’, whatever that means. The finish is medium long, very fresh and clean. Wow, it’s soooo much better than the current 12yo! Besides, it kept perfectly, which might be thanks to its plastic stopper. Plastic, better than cork or metal? Mmmm… Anyway, 90 points for this old Bowmore (Davin 92, Olivier 94).

Definitely needs some time to open.
    Don't add any water !
It will drop down flat immediately.
The whole whisky is watery on the palate from the very start.
For those of you who tried only a sample of this or a single bottle, i tried whisky from 3 bottles and there is somewhat a significant diffrence of the whole whisky bottled inside those bottles... I rated first one with 85p due to being peaty and less fruity, also lighter in color, however second 2 bottlings were significantly darker in color and had a more fruity taste. 88p for those. All 3 bottlings were a bit watery on the palate though...
No matter what however, It's definitely a must try for all Bowmore fans.
