    RATING: 85pts – |83 – 86 (B) → Good| — Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.

The nose is fresh and oaky with hints of lemon cake, fresh wood cut, almond dust, white apricots and pepper.
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is slightly sweet with light bitterness, sourness and touches of spicy oak, white apples and gentle fruits.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is medium lenght and pretty spicy with notes of oakiness, vanilla and mineral water on the back.

Nose: soft, slightly fruity and oak. Taste: in the mouth the oak fades into the background and the peppers unfold and in the aftertaste the peppers dominate. A little too much for my taste.

A rather successful experiment with "intense maturation".
Sadly the nose is lightyears ahead of taste + finish.

Flawless nose, very intense and characterful. Strikes a good balance between fruity-fresh / mineralic-tart / spicy-peppery.
Lime zest, white pepper, sea salt, essential oils of pine and cedar. Everything I like about Arran (maritime freshness, elegant bitters) is there, without any mediocre sherry casks to get in the way. Super crisp and clean.

Lots of oak, but it's not completely over the top. Character-wise, it's sour-bitter almost all the way until a final splash of spirit sweetness at the very end.
Phew, truly a tale of two halves. The nose was great, but on the palate, it becomes more austere, drying, citric and tart. Actually, it's borderline bitter and pretty unwelcoming. A "schweppesian" malt, if you will. Fun as an apéritif, perhaps, but you probably won't be in the mood for it often enough to warrant buying a bottle.
    • Finish
      82 82
Oak spices, tart minerality (limestone and quinine) and a musty dryness. Very long for a (probably) very young malt.

A round pleasure with a few small corners and edges from the Quarter Casks, especially in the taste, which for me could also have been clearer to make the malt more exciting overall.

Light straw gold emphasizes malt on the nose and a grain silo in the autumn rain, macadamia vanilla ice cream and a strappy apple pie with sugar pieces. Fresh figs, nectarines and grapefruit bring more fruit to the nose. Herbal tea, fresh hay, cloves, a thin sheet of zinc and green peppers are concentrated in a sharp alcohol tinge close to acetone with lavender. A little coconut and a few spruce needles let the oak shimmer through.
    • Taste
      82 82
Cake dough, rock sugar and cocoa sound sweet and slightly spicy, but still balanced on the palate, gradually becoming a little drier with a little flowery cloves, green apple and grapefruit. Herbal candy from a metal can and fresh coniferous wood are clearly reminiscent of the quarter casks.
    • Finish
      78 78
In the medium-long finish, cocoa and dark chocolate remain malty and sweet and then fade away with a slightly acidic wine and a slightly numb feeling in the mouth.

Time and/or water bring out the yellow fruits that make this dram interesting. A good clean Arran.
