  1. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Great, intense whisky, meets the expectations that the presentation awakens. It is fascinating that even in such a barrel-dominated Auchentoshan clearly the Brennereicharakter can be seen.
    • Nose
      strong, heavy-sweet. spicy, candy, forest berry jam, marzipan, gingerbread, but also (just at the beginning) the typical fresh-flowery Auchentoshan notes
    • Taste
      Orange marmalade and zest, honey, dark chocolate, spicy-spicy, neat pepper
    • Finish
      long, chocolate, pepper

    2015 Limited Edition... as in, it’s still available in 2019 limited... as Jerry Seinfeld said “we are limited in the number we can sell”

    I took no notes, and did not finish my sample.

    Blind tasting.
    • Nose
      orange (mandarin?), cereal (rice crispies), op-shop, dark chocolate, aniseed
    • Taste
      watery, wetness, Cointreau-water
    • Finish
      short

  5. schengel10 scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

    An unusual, decent lowland malt that is a bit too expensive for me!
    • Nose
      distinct dominant spice / oak, behind (dark) fruit (plums, cherries?);
    • Taste
      spicy on the nose, superficial spiciness (pepper, nutmeg) subtle orange, still young ?;
    • Finish
      medium-length finish, spicy note sounds long after;

      Nosing: sweet, initially dominate citrus, later ripe apricot and peach, in the background a bit hard to define, reminds me of chewing gum mixed with wood, no smoke
    • Taste
      85 85
      not surprising, sweet, light and soft on the tongue, dark fruits, balanced, harmonious, really yummy
    • Finish
      80 80
      less explosive, medium long, wooden barrel

    The used red wine barrels characterize this whisky very intense, almost the strawberries are too intrusive to me and seem somehow ...

    • Nose
      If I also know Auchentoshan as rather restrained and very mild, then I am immediately greeted by strong, sugary strawberry puree and pickled cherries with a strong hint of vanilla. I already knew strawberry flavors from the 12th, so they are more likely owed to the distillate character, the red wine barrels they only understand. The longer he stands in the glass, the sweeter he seems to be. A ripe honey melon and juicy Nashi pears support this impression. The beautiful spicy oak notes testify to a good choice of barrel.
    • Taste
      The higher alcohol content is also noticeable on the palate, powerful, peppery and full of volume, the flavors flow over the tongue. Here, too, primarily ripe strawberries and cherries. But unlike expected it is not so sweet, but the red fruitiness is superimposed here by strong woody oak notes that remind rather light fresh planed wood than old barrels. Even a light fur of tannins from the French oak barrels lays on the tongue. Beautiful spices such as cardamom and cloves fit into the rather tart profile.
    • Finish
      The finish is quite short and also characterized here by the different oak barrels. Instead of strawberries dominate here rather dark currants, but especially tart spices such as nutmeg and cloves.
