  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A seriously good dram, yet not spectacular.
    • Nose
      84 84
The salty toffee side of sherry cask maured whisky. It's fairly nutty too. Think of salty caramel ice cream, almond, peanut, autumn leaf on a forest floor, and a hint of orange syrup.
    • Taste
      86 86
Remains quite nutty and toffee-ish, with a bit more of dried fruit now: fig and date. Also, there is a more pronounced earthy influence, with dunnage floor added to the spectrum. It's quite pleasant strength-wise, and is more in balance than on the nose.
    • Finish
      85 85
Stays for quite a while, and doesn't get dry nor overly spicy. This friendly finish is mainly on fruit (more towards prune now) and earthy notes (moss, leaf, dunnage).

A really great whisky. I like it really well. A whisky where the whole package is right. Here, taste and finish keep that which the nose announces. Really great. No easy drinker.
    • Nose
directly sulfur in the nose; Furniture polish; nice chocolaty, slight oak tones; dried, red grapes
    • Taste
first supple freshness, then comes after a few seconds oak along with chocolate and raisins. It tingles really nice on the tongue; light pepper
    • Finish
Sherry, oak. Sweet and very light smoke. Medium length, dark fruits and berries. Wood and sherry. Again a little bit of sulfur combined with an intense spiciness, very dry. There is a great sweetness on the palate.

    An absolutely wonderful dram.
    • Nose
      88 88
The malt comes with malty notes, caramel sweetness, chocolatey, fine and delicious salt notes.
    • Taste
      90 90
Very sweet paired with a fine sulfur note. The oak of the barrel is clearly visible. A soft and gentle mouthfeel spreads, the alcohol is well integrated.
    • Finish
      88 88
The finish is rather medium-long. You have spicy notes, a little sulfur and chocolate in your mouth.

Obviously drawn from a really nice oldschool sherry butt, which elevates this 19-year-old into unusually lofty spheres, character-wise.

Quite delicious malt, easy to drink but not directly "easy drinking" and not particularly complex. Somewhere in the middle.
    • Nose
      87 87
Gentle and light on the nose, mint-fresh, wood notes, light waxy, with a caramel-sweet, vanilla notes with fruity notes of red berries, slightly dirty after moist forest floor, wet earth.
With a little time not easy maritime notes.
    • Taste
      85 85
Powerful but not too strong start, neat oak flavor in combination with a light forest honey sweetness. dark chocolate and subtle sulfur. Even though only 46% is getting something good.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium-long finish, spicy with dark chocolate. Slight sulphurous notes remain

    a successful malt,
he is easygoing and I like it
    so easydrinking
    • Nose
Sherry, raisins, sweet, light malt, milk chocolate, very pleasant !!
    • Taste
soft and silky on the palate
Plums, sweet, slightly oak will be more, spicy, red fruits
    • Finish
      medium long
      Sherry, Vanilla, Vote Cream

  8. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Finally, the pleasant Tobermory, true, sherry standard, and it's not clear what the basis actually gave, but not bad. The beginning was more raisin and sweet, but the finale rather reminded of Oloroso, a good balance, good saturation and depth for a small fortress.
    • Nose
Clear, raw, raisin-tree, light sulfur notes, dried fruits - dried apricots, raisins; Burnt rusks, furniture varnish, earth colors, Pu-er, wine aromas, port tones, dried apples.
    • Taste
Dense, raisin-tree with a greater share of wood than in the aroma, prunes, dark beer, leavard, dried apricots, kumquats.
    • Finish
Dry, sour bitter, dark beer, lacquer notes, tart oak mustard.

  9. KayMeertens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Toffee, bramble, cherry, banana and a whiff of sulphur.
    • Taste
Salted toffee, cherry, blackberry and sulphur. Water adds plum and takes away most of the sulphur.
    • Finish
      Salted toffee and blueberry.

Tip: No idea. Not even close. Scot? Yes, probably!

    Resolution: WID: 70634
A tobermory of Dun Bheagan at the age of 19.

I also like it very much. This whisky is very own and has an unusual texture in the mouth. Thumbs up!
    • Nose
Fruity, rich berries, a bit of sulfur which does not bother me at all), oak, tart chocolate, light roasted aromas and cloves
    • Taste
Woah! Very peppery and first slightly alcoholic. But then very spicy and "you chew your own wolf". Insanity texture: really fat and viscous. At the back, the complete range of sherry flavors.
The raisins remain in my head
    • Finish
medium length, some oak and very dry

  11. malthead-sven scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

He definitely has recognition value. The aroma is not infinitely complex, but has its own sherry heaviness, in the mouth and finish then dominated by the strong oak barrel. Great, creamy Sherrymalt and despite 46% not too lax.
    • Nose
heavy, thick sherry, sticky, soft toffee, creamy sweets, marzipan, rich yellow grapes in the foreground, cooked fruits, juicy and heavy sweet, peach-passion fruit spread, raisin buns, fresh herbs are slowly mixing with it
    • Taste
again sweet with very dense consistency, tingling and spicy, the oak is immediately there, intense woody, dark pastry, rye bread, spice-speculaas
    • Finish
the sweetness continues, mouth-watering, the tingling spicy impression lingers for a while on the cheeks, otherwise not so strong on the finish, medium length

    Tobermory Dun Bheagan 19J 1995/2015 WID: 70634

Nose: Mint spills, wood comes after, Bourbon like, sweetness, caramel, chocolate. In the background berries.

Taste: Full mouthfeel. Sweet. Chocolate, sulfur. Oak comes. Then he bizzles on the tongue. For 46% he is quite powerful.

Finish: Very warm with spices and chocolate. Some sulfur remains in the mouth. The finish is very long.

Conclusion: I have since found that I like these sulfuric notes and I think they are good to the Tobermory. It is a pity that the bottling is already priced in the 3-digit range. As a smoky I would not call him, even if it is marked as such in TWS.

A dram worthy a deity might dream of it. rating: 91/100

    current price: ~100€ (06th of March, 2016)
    • Nose
A fragrance of bourbon vanilla combined with the sweet, intoxicating odour of caramel is followed by chocolate and gingerbread. A hint of oak is wafting through the room. After a while oranges and dark fruits are noticeable as well.
    • Taste
A smooth, oily and creamy taste full of chocolate, molasses and a nuance of citrus fruits. Wonderful balance between oak, wood, spiciness and the sweet taste of the cask.
    • Finish
Medium bodied and try on the palate, abundant with wood and sweetness.

Nose: salty broth, berries, chocolate, vanilla, clove, tender oak and a good dose of sulfur. A very own and dirty malt - as I am used to it from the sherry barrel at UA Tobermorys.
Taste: first supple, but suddenly the part explodes in the mouth: sparkling and peppery with beautiful notes of wood and malt sweetness. When swallowing then a sherry explosion: dry berry wine, chocolate pudding and again this dirty sea and sulfur note. The wood brings a huge dryness and beautiful spices with it. This jumbled and interesting mix stays in the mouth and throat for a long time, ensuring an intense and long finish - despite only 46%.
Delicious ! A very own and multi-layered tobermory but certainly not suitable as an all-day dram.
