igHh quality sherry casks. Seems to be considerably older than 12 years, malt you don’t want to rush
    • Nose
(neat) very gentle and sweet, leatherwood honey, naturally flavored marmalade, some pastry notes, dried plum and peaches
(water) delicate sherry notes, nougat, marzipan
    • Taste
(neat) quite powerful, strong, compare to the nose, sweet turns to sour, bitter, astringent, some herbs
(water) dump dunnage warehouse sensation, old books, tobacco, slightly medicinal, gas, grape seed oil, young walnuts, complexity from arrival till finish
    • Finish
Quite long, from sweet to dry and herbal, astringent

What a nice nose. A bit restraint at first but aeration helped a lot. Nice evolution and complexity. Great mouth too.
A very elegant old young Bunnahabhain.
    • Nose
Seabreeze, whiffs of fruits, slightly nutty and leathery. Let's it breathe. More fruits (yellow and tropical). Spices. Honey. And an old stuff feeling.
    • Taste
Quite punchy at first despite the low ABV. Peppery, oily, citrusy. Tropical fruits again. Slightly smoky and oaky.
    • Finish
Medium, lingering fruits and some smoke.

Quite classic, softened and more melted, but also reduced version of the modern 12 years.

    Enthusiasm 2/5

Comparative Casting with the current one

Interesting comparison. The nose of the current came to me after the well-defined nose of the 70s properly taped. I had not noticed that before. Overall, the current but has more depth of flow and has become significantly "darker" of the overall character. The nose of the old but I like somehow better.
    • Nose
very nutty, malty, a few "old bottle notes", but not so strong. Slightly alcoholic, walnuts, salt, some leather and a touch of ammonia, plus some tropical fruits over time, especially pineapple.
    • Taste
rather tender and surprisingly fruity, oak, salt, also dirty, but the new one has more flavors.
    • Finish
quite clear on tart oak, some leather and a few tropical fruit notes.

Very good old Bunna - 43% abv was a good thing at that time
    • Nose
Ripe fruits, bananas, pineapples, oranges, melons, little nutty and oaky, little sea breeze and seaweed, little salty, very little smoky and leathery and old books
    • Taste
Little punchy and peppery, oily and liquorice, nice balance between maritime notes and subtle sweetness, old books, a bit salty, little fruitiness, green fruits, even a bit grassy
    • Finish
Medium long and warm, still feeling the sea

Just some notes from a tasting.

Really great, and after breathing in an opened bottle for around a year, it is still very great.

Maybe it smoothed down a little bit.

    Great and round old Whisky!

... at least this example ...

    ... the price doubled now ... ?
    • Nose
Influence of old casks ... Scouring powder and tingling old citrus aromas.

At first some roughness with wood and hints of tar and tires and minestrone.

... After some minutes the roundness and the character develop.

Raisins, stewed fruits, red jams, sweet peaches and also some other tropical fruits such as pineapple ...

Sweet maltiness emerges, some coffee and truffles.

Pralines (also truffles), dark chocolate, even hints of cocoa and an old walnut liquor.

Hints of leather, old wood and a slight spiciness make this a wonderful round and full nose, that is surprisingly complex and rich.
    • Taste
Very slow and almost elegant in the mouth with just a little (but not too less) fire.

Old citrus notes, old wood and sweet fruitiness.

Jams, hints of brandy beans, raisins, peaches again.

The pralines (again truffles, and also walnut) and the walnut liquor arrive again.

Scouring powder, hints of pine needle extract.

More cocoa, sweet maltiness, hints of leather.
    • Finish
Pleasant and in a slight creamy way.

beginning with old casks and some scouring powder again.

Soon emerge wood notes (spices) and the walnut liquor (very high quality).

Molten butter, stewed fruits, some red jams again, peaches and pineapple.

      Cocoa and some pralines.
