    • Nose
Both warm smoke and cold ash, lemon, earth, clearly maritime, salt, honey, caramel, grain, some apricot, some passion fruit, fruit salad
    • Taste
Some apple, some honey, maritime, warm smoke, cold ash

  2. Saftkenner scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

The nose is the highlight here with a very nice, harmonious, pleasant smoke. The youth is particularly noticeable in this bottling on the palate.
    • Nose

Strong, marine smoke. Campfire on the beach.
Seaweed, salt, passion fruit, vanilla, light oak spice, quince and a light citrus note.
      Overall very harmonious.
    • Taste
      82 82
Easily noticeable alcohol with a slightly metallic note. Not as harmonious on the palate as on the nose.
Pepper, honey, some cardboard, passion fruit and a hint of raspberries.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium to long finish. Smoke, grapefruit, tannins, slightly salty.

Pleasant smoke box, saturated, well drunk.

  7. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

For me it is too young in the aroma and for the youth then not unreasonable enough. Not bad, but nothing that really excites me.
    • Nose
In the nose a clear youth. Of course a lot of peat, fruity, but also new make fruitiness, cereal, some sewing machine oil.
    • Taste
an oily consistency, lots of peat, a little pepper, and some cardboard, with a few bitter substances.
    • Finish
      Peat, bitterness.

Sweet, smokey, easy. Nothing really special.

On the nose, peat and lemon, then with aeration develop more acidified fruit scents and a creamy vanilla return!
    • Nose
oily peat, smoke behind, lemon yellow, a grassy side with camphor, then back vanilla and pastry.

Taste is certainly not bad, but to me it is indeed an ardbeg with too much water added. Rather have the Ardbeg 10, same price range.

  14. Andytka3 scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

N- Big and aggressive. Nutty, iodine and tar with pickled ginger vinegar. P- Buttery, burst of smokes with rose syrup sweetness. Lightly hollow
but packed with smokes. Sniff of coffee bean, charred wood.

F- Short-medium. Scent of cigar and nicotine remains. Savoury and salty bbq sauce. Spicy building up with herbal bitterness.

    My guess:- From Ardbeg.

Tasty for a joint event with Duthoron and his friend Pedro. Reportedly, the classic Smokehead is 6-yo behind the backside of the Ardbeg, and this version is supposed to be an older brother. So would Ardbeg 7 yo be diluted to 40%? Bitter reverberation could suggest ... But 100% we probably will never know. Good whisky for me.
    • Nose
Sweet peat, slightly almond, sweet rubber (famous Mercury wheels). It's funny enough, I expected the smaller influence of peat, so satisfaction. (86 b)
    • Taste
Bitter, it looks young on me, it's a little sparse, more watery on my tongue, but it's still peaty whisky. The resulting impression greatly improves the flavor. I can feel very strikingly and with a bold expression of cashew. That's great, in addition very original, I think I recorded the cashews and paraoureas in my notes for the first time ever. (86 b)
    • Finish
      Great.

  16. Thermidor scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

The blind sample I had reminded me most of the less winning casks from DL's Provenance series. Very young spirit with barely any wood influence and a bunch of soot. Simple and thoroughly unimpressive. My first though was it's a cradle robbed Laphroaig. To label something like this "extra rare" is really pushing it.

a good nose, but the taste could be a little be more complex
    • Nose
      smoke, fresh, flower field, complex
a very good Nose for a smokey Whisky
    • Taste
softer then i had accepted. Peat mixed with sweat honey
    • Finish
first peat and spices, then very dry peat in finish

    My guess – Ardbeg
