This is how Macallan became what it is. If only a few bottlings were there today, where this malt is ...
Why do we prefer to drink cask strength today? Because nobody fills something like that anymore. This barrel quality is also extremely good at 43%. A blessing to perceive the high intensity of the aromas without a peppery tickle when you set off.

I smell Paxarette there. The boiled-down plum is so compacted that I have to assume that this was helped. Acts more than 43% and is incredibly intense. Macallan himself (Orange) doesn't come through until later. Overall top class! The intensity and complexity are just right. Balance? Does not matter :)

The incredibly gentle start does not suggest what follows. Full oak flavor, chocolate-coated (70% cocoa) espresso beans, behind some dark dried fruit. Powerful, mouthwashing, dry, bitter.

Initially quite dry with a few bitter notes. At the border or already over? But withdraws again and lets the oranges and prunes take precedence.
Seems to go early, but then comes again, not with very high intensity, but noticeably.
