Whisky Reviews for Gruwehewwel 2007 SaW
4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.00 points
- 96.5 and the first prize rightly. Super stuff, unfortunately, all gone.
- Conclusion: 87/100 points - "nice daily dram". The "Gruwehewwel Edition 1" from Saar-Whisky convinces with its smoky-peaty character. It offers a delicious and pleasing taste experience throughout. Do not go wrong with whiskys like Lagavulin Distillers Edition. I strongly assume that the whisky is also from Lagavulin. Tasty, round but not too complex. Why he was named Single Malt Whidky 2016 by Jim Murray is not revealed to me. Link to the tasting on my blog incl. Photo:
A pretty smoky-peaty character. A touch of bacon and vanilla. Some salt and sea discreetly in the background.
Start something alcoholic with a lot of smoke and peat. The alcohol evaporates quickly and leaves behind a rather salty, sweetish peat whisky. Little corners and edges.
Medium-long finish with peat and smoke. Some bittersweet chocolate in the background.
- Note www.saarwhisky.de: The legend lives on! With 96.5 out of 100 points best single malt (single cask) of the year 2016 in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, the green wolf hid far below ground to gain new strength.
Now after a week's rest, the wheel of the pit tower turns again.
Light enters the eyes of the upstart, who emerges from the darkness after his deep rest in a new robe. Mining has been around 450 BC in Saarland since the Celts. By archaeological finds and written since the 15th century.
From this time also the first written evidence for the production of the Celtic grain distillate "uisge beatha", which means something like "water of life".
By continuous improvement of the burning processes developed from today's whisky. "Gruwehewwel" were formerly called the miners in the Saarland and they had a lot to do.
12 hours shifts were not uncommon.
