    Old School

For a long time, Glenturret was also the spiritual home of the famous blend The Famous Grouse, but since its sale to Lalique in June 2018, that is no longer the case. In the meantime, the brand has even been sold on to William Grants & Sons, known for Glenfiddich! When this 18-year-old Glenturret - distilled in 1976 - was bottled - in the early 1990s - the large copper statue of the Grouse was indeed still in the parking lot of the distillery. That's how old this bottling of First Cask is. Let's get to work.

Very layered and beautifully fruity nose on mandarins, dried apricots, pear syrup and pomme d'amour, but also dates and blackberries. Hint of jute. That's a very complex nose, I must say. After a few minutes in the glass, a candy touch like Haribo bears comes along. Nice and very attractive.

The body is a bit on the light side, but in terms of taste this is particularly beautiful. Nectarines, apples with cinnamon, pear, mandarin… it continues for a while. The malt seems to become a bit creamier, as it caresses the tongue. And spicier too. It started soft, but midpalate it starts to tingle a bit like white pepper, liquorice and fresh ginger. Mint too. What a beautiful evolution!

The finish is long, complex and sweet with a spicy edge. It really keeps on giving for a long time. Only on the deathbed does a very floral touch suddenly appear, almost flirting with shampoo. I just take that for granted.

An old school Glenturret that you probably can't find anywhere anymore, but really worth it. Thx, Manny!
