A 10y old Tamdhu on sherry at 60+% abv. Fasten your seatbelts I would say up front.
    • Nose

A truckload of raisins to start with. overripe red fruit on dirty sherry. Somewhere between Billy Walker's Single Cask bottlings Glendronach and Glenallachie. Pretty good!
    • Taste
      87 87
Full body arrival; of course given the abv. If you are not into heavy sherried whiskies, please skip this. On the verge of being a glen sherry. Spicy sherry notes. Pretty oily.
    • Finish
      86 86
Aforementioned flavors of the taste continue in the finish. Then very dry, and strange enough in the final finish quite thin.

  2. Cubey666 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

nutty, light sherry profile, on taste a bit strong in alcohol burn, nuts, tobaccobox, hot! finish is also hot but a bit flat. after some water the taste becomes it a bit stale

The different flavors and complex palettes appeal to me, but the outcome of the taste is less. I think a matter of taste.

it is a decent whisky but I find myself more finding fault with it than commending it; this is perhaps because I was expecting a different Tamdhu experience than what was on offer so it seems to suffer by expectations; the nose delivers the goods, the finish is decent albeit a bit one-dimensional, but the palate doesn't accord with prior expectations
    • Nose
slightly burnt fudge; ladies perfume; honeyed porridge; sesame oil
    • Taste
some sweetness but a little tart, slightly astringent
    • Finish
medium to long; a pleasant diminishing with no strange sideeffects; it doesn't seem to impart any new notes for better or worse

Besides the Ultimate cask strength Longmorn's, the Tamdhu's certainly belong to my favorite. The smell, the taste and the recognisability of ingredients, that I leave to each his own judgment. After all, it is a different experience for each of us. Cheers!

Fantastic marriage of spirit and sherry wood. I would like to say near perfect although I'm not experienced enough with the Tamdhu spirit to prove this .

I only noticed I didn't have a tasting note until I almost finished the bottle, so there might be (a lot) of air exposure that changed the initial properties of this whisky. I can confirm, however, that it didn't get any worse :)
    • Nose
Deep sherry tones, overripe red fruit, raisins, caramel, vanilla, damp, wet hay, there is also a fresher note, some wet grass sprinkled with mint, but then more banana, apricot, fudge
    • Taste
sweet, ripe red fruit, fudge, caramel, vanilla sticks, mint, some cask notes (good, not bitter)
    • Finish
mint lingers with dried red marmalade, some wood sap  and caramel fudge

Nice balance between smell, taste and finish. Very solid and warming dram, in which the sherryvat influences come out nicely.
    • Nose
Red fruit, raisins, and I smell kind of rösti-circles ... Glue of glue, Buttery, toffee. Alcohol is pretty strong (not so crazy). Capucchino, vanilla.
    • Taste
Full! Red fruit, chocolate. Stinging through the high Abv. Warm. Leather comes along. Oil-like structure. Toffee.
    • Finish
Warm, fairly long, smooth. Red fruit, honey, chocolate.

Love the van Wees Ultimate Tamdhu bottlings.

This one is good as well, but is a bit more heavy on the palate. More spicy and dry. Less creamy then some of the others. For me this one feels a tad out of balance.

  22. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Blind tasting.
    • Nose
Fruity, spices, forest fruits - raspberries. Fudge, herbs and baked potatoes.
    • Taste
Very full and still reserved of complexity with fruits and spices.
    • Finish
Medium drying with vanilla and spices. Coffy, cola and citrus fruits.

A very, very nice whisky for it's price!!!
    • Nose
      Very sweet, sultana, marzipan.
    • Taste
Sweet. Very big influence from the sherry butt.

      Marzipan, apricot.
    • Finish
      Long and warm.

  26. Defeatless scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Nose: Toffee, raisin, rum-raisin cake. Little bit of glue, which will dissapear. Rather sweet smell, hint of toasted oak I assume. Very pleasing smell! With water more musk notes. More leather and old chesterfield chairs.

Taste: neat: sweet warm arrival. Bitter hint, sherry, sherry, sherry. Caramel and toffee, pipe tobacco and leather. With water: sweet as a fudge, more sherry, later arrival. Hint of shoe-polish (not disturbing).

Body: full and rounded. goes down like syrup!

Finish: Remarkable smooth without water. a little dry. Sweetness, hint of leather. with water not much change only more leather.

Price: Very well priced! as usual with a Van Wees bottling.

Presentation: as always, sober but decent.

    • Taste
Powerful. Oily. Citrus fruits. Apricots. Peaches. Dark chocolate. Pickled raisins. Oak.
    • Finish
Medium. Raisins. Butterscotch. Exotic fruits. Espresso. Drying.

This one needs some time. And is more fruity than the 6 y old.
    • Nose
Indeed apricot, mocha, toffee, some raspberry, bramble and chocolate?
    • Taste
Tofffee, raspberry, apricot and some fruit and milk chocolate in the end.
    • Finish
Long, toffee again and milk chocolate and raspberry. Very nice sweet after taste. Some raisins in the end.

  29. gerrit de guru scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    Needs some time to open.
Nose/ taste: orange fruits; apricots, tangerine, oranges and a tiny bit of sulphur.
Raisins in the finish, which is a bit too short.

  30. KayMeertens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

First impression is that this one is more fruity than other casks from this range, but I still have to compare them.
    • Nose
Toffee, apricot, raspberry, bramble and mocha.
    • Taste
Toffee, raspberry, apricot and passion fruit. In the long run milk chocolate.
    • Finish
      Raspberry, toffee and milk chocolate.
