The price of this bottle is one of the most astounding ripoffs in the whisky industry. Barely a year before this thing was released Littlemills of comparable age and equal or better quality were bottled at a little less or more than £100.

Flash Blog

A call to bloggers was launched on Facebook to find people willing to try the new Littlemill 25 Year Old on 14th October. And publish their finding, of course. I answered to the call and lo and behold: I got a 5cl miniature for this Littlemill Flash Blog. Quite the opportunity if you consider that the new bottle will cost 2.700 EUR which is (way, way) beyond my budget. And let us be honest: this is Littlemill! The new Private Cellar Edition is only 1.500 bottles strong. It is a vatting of ten casks from 1989 and 1990, finished on oloroso sherry casks. The packaging is very luxurious, but then with such a price tag, that should be a given.

The nose is not as tropical as I would have hoped, but nevertheless grand. Candied oranges, walnuts and chewing tobacco come first, followed by some dark chocolate and freshly coated leather. Some passion fruit, pink grapefruit and mandarin. Yes, leave it to breath for a few minutes and it becomes very fruity indeed.

On the palate, the tobacco comes first. Quite pleasant. Some mint underneath. Again the citrusfruit from the nose appears (mandarin, grapefruit and oranges), but fresher than expected. It can hide its age well, this is very lively. Midpalate the wood shines through with a hint of black tea.

The finish is wonderfully long, but does turn a bit dry now. But that is okay. It is not a party pooper.

Again a fantastic Littlemill, although it is not the best I have ever had. It is the most expensive, though. Thank you, Steve from the Whisky Wire, for this opportunity.

Color
Chestnutoloroso sherry
Nose
