    Classic

Distiller's Art is a new series by Langside Distillers (which is part of Hunter Laing), which releases single cask bottlings. So far there have been an Allt-a-Bhainne, Blair Athol, Braeval, Clynelish, Craigellachie, Fettercairn, Glenburgie, Inchgower, Mortlach, Speyside and now this Auchentoshan. The single casks are all released at a strength of 48%.

Light, clean nose on citrus, grass, malt, grain cookies with a hint of effervescent tablet, bubblegum and buttercups. Some vanilla ice-cream. Classic Toshan on bourbon, nothing more, nothing less.

Slightly oily on the palate. A bit of pepper and some ginger, but also oak, precede citrus (mostly peel), vanilla, heather honey and barley sugar. Becomes honeysweet. Dangerously quaffable. Reminds me somewhat of Fanta Lemon, but with a hammer, obviously.

The finish is rather short. Gone before you realise it.

Very easy Toshan, not to be pondered but to be sipped in the sun, while listening to the chirping birds.

    Auchentoshan 1997, 16 years, 48% alc.
    Bottler: Distiller's Art (Langside Distillers)
    Extension: Bourbon barrel (refill hogshead)
    Region: Lowlands, Scotland

Nose: Very intrusive fruit flavors, grass and flower meadow. Würzfleisch in the background - fits wonderfully to the overall impression. In addition, blueberries, blackberries and citrus fruits in vanilla ice cream.

Palate: First slightly creamy, it dries quickly. Toffee, shortbread, crumble cake and vanilla pudding. Light caramel, cocoa butter and mangos.

Finish: Long, dry and with a subtle sweetness. In addition mild pepper and oak wood.

Conclusion: The nose is for a Auchentoshan in the age really pronounced fruity, palate and finish go a little U-turn, but fit into the picture.

    85/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 85 €)
I thank the importer (prowhisky) for sample and photo
