    Pleasure in every sip.
    • Nose
Dusty nose, caramelized roasted nuts, delicate dry wood, a mixture of citrus fruits and seaweedy dried fruits. Fine smoke far behind.
    • Taste
Palate with dried fruits that have taken on the slightly metallic taste of the copper cauldron in which they were cooked. The alcohol is really perfect. Fresh eucalyptus smoke on the finish.
    • Finish
Salted butter caramel finish, iodized minerality. Pepper.

  4. wncvirus scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Nose: leather, light dust, aromas of burnt rubber, some peat, some grass.
Taste: From the first sip on the tongue, noticeable notes of oak covered with dusty old peat.
Rating: 90 | 100 - Long finish with sweetish notes in the form of vanilla turning into caramel. In my opinion, whisky is worth trying. Pretty deep and long notes are nicely arranged. Interestingly compiled!

  5. Kensay scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Great, maybe it's not very complex, but everything is at the highest level, balance, density, integration of alcohol
    • Nose
Salted oily fish in the haze of a fire, iodine and algae, animal hair, rotten leaves, smoked prunes, ripe strawberries in sugar
    • Taste
Salted lemon with a drop of oil, charcoal, ripe sweet fruit, strawberry jam, salted caramel, moderately dense, buttery
    • Finish
Dry, citrus, spices and raisins, strawberry jam

  6. PRV scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

It is immediately clear that this is the major league! The core here is peat (smoke, coal), it penetrates like a skewer a berry cocktail with a predominance of dried strawberries. Variety of woody tones, honey frame, minty freshness. Everything is very subtle and refined.
The taste is very intense! Honey and sweet, but fresh and minty, with a nice smokey finish.
The aftertaste is even perfumery in places, floral-honey shades, pleasant salty astringency.
    Class!

Overall not that outstanding to me, mango, and some fruit, ash smell etc

Still some spicy, after taste a bit bitter tase

Hope it will be better afterwatds

2nd time tasting, seems this style not a high mark to me, I am tasting a Lagavulin feis Ile 2016 and I like lagavulin more...

    4. Talisker 25 yo, 58.1%, bottled 2007 WB631
Andrei always insisted on giving the newcomer a 95-point malt at once and only after that start educational activities. I disagree - without a base, he has nothing to push off from (as from the bottom) and he will simply ruin the hammer and will not understand that he is holding a diamond.
This is wonderful! B23. Total 95
Yesterday I tested HP25 50.7% - these are fighters in the same category, but this friend is closer to me. Shelf - yes. Drinking is a must.
PS You will only appreciate how an empty glass smells! This is a head-off!
    • Nose
The aroma of this malt contains the very old luxery sherry - smoked strawberry jam (does it happen?), Smeared on an oak cutting board. There is a lot of noble wood, but it does not press, everything is harmonious here. Over time, candied flower honey, peppermint and ripe yellow fruits emerge. Smoke and smokiness is present, but it doesn't press and you don't even really notice it 24
    • Taste
On the palate, oily, honeycomb (there is definitely a waxiness) from light candied honey, bee bread, mint with pleasant bitterness, and a light peat fruit cocktail completes the whole thing 24
    • Finish
The aftertaste is endless! Sweet honey-salty, mineral-woody and all this is sprinkled with ash 24

A bit shy on the nose, powerful and balanced on the palate
    • Nose

Nutty, green fruits, unripe walnuts, old wooden cabinet, little earthy, hints of leather and black tea, spices, little leafy, nutmeg, dates - not bad
    • Taste
      90 90
Punchy, oily, spicy, subtle sweetness, nutty, some dried fruits, nutty, sherry wood, little peat and smoke, tobacco, pepper - very good
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium long, warm, spicy, woody, little peaty

Rocket fuel in the best possible meaning. Power w/o end, highly concentrated flavors. Bears some similarities to the Caol Ila Feis Ile 22 but tops the latter by a notch. No comparison to younger T25 at reduced strengths, not only b/c of alcohol but overall cask quality. Too bad to see this one go the way all things.

  13. hfc scored this whisky 88 points Member Junior

Initially so smoky and irritating. A good 20-30 minutes in the glass it unfurled to give more fruits and sherry notes that made it more balanced. Still, slightly too woody for my expectation.

This was really very nice, but a bit shy of absolutely spectacular. It’s certainly interesting relative to the 10.

    • Taste

Coastal peat, candied fruits, citrus, herbs, great balance, very nice

  16. DocF scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

    Color: deep gold.

I have already mentioned elsewhere that this salty Talisker note has the potential to get me off the hook, either the combination with sherry does not work or a sulphurous keg has slipped in (Serge writes "beefy", for example, a euphemism for me from sulfurizing), I definitely get various foul notes too present to be friends. 89 points, nevertheless well-made whisky. And please enjoy this evaluation with great caution.
    • Nose
It is also quieter than the 2008, chocolatier, darker, salt, algae and mint, as well as ripe oranges, furniture polish, tree sap and leather. Fresh lemon juice, some acacia honey, bergamot. Polished oak, old coffee. With water: more orange peel, more polished oak, hot smoke, salt and white pepper, sometimes has something rotten, maybe that's the combination of oranges + Talisker, stings in my nose unpleasantly. Modern wood, sounds more forgiving.
    • Taste
With water: ripe oranges, furniture polish, just a little salt, black coffee, earl gray, with chewing a little quince jelly. Fir honey, candle soot, tree sap. Brackish water, modern wood. Wet tree bark, miso soup, rotten hay.
    • Finish
Long, fall fruit, rotting autumn leaves. Towards the end slightly dry, brown bread, wet pebbles, air after the rain. Bailey's.

  17. Jnpons scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    Color: old gold, copper highlights

Nose: earthy peat, fine and elegant smoke, nuts, grapes, apricots or white fruits, leather.

Palate: a sweet, smoky, peppery peat.

Finish: long, endless, on hot coal, fine and elegant.

Comments: well integrated alcohol, a delicious, round nose.

  18. Thermidor scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

In comparison to the 20yo 1982 (92 pts.), I feel that the extra five years have rounded up the peat slightly, but also that the cask in this release was more active, giving out both more straight oak, and some bourbony notes I can't find in the 20yo. Both are great whiskys, and the current 10yo unsurprisingly felt a little immature and underachieving next to them ;)
    • Nose
I get a bit of ABV-induced tightness, which is surprising because the 20yo clocks in at 0,7 % higher and doesn't really have this at all. There is an almost Bowmore-ish putty smell here somewhere, and a sweet bourbon note, as well as pure maltiness which isn't present in the 20yo. Fresh varnish straight from the can, and that big Talisker peat that binds everything together.
    • Taste
Easier, sweeter than the 20yo. By no means still a gentle giant, what with the voluminous peat and everything. Sal-ammoniac and chlorine, and much more pepper than in the 20yo. Some plaster and vanilla, and in the end it feels peatier than the 20yo.
    • Finish
Long, ashy, peaty, drying. A big malt for sure. Some wet plaster and a fair bit of sal-ammoniac.

  19. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

nose on toasted caramel, fruits cooked on red and black fruits (grapes, morello cherries)
spices, the cask of dripping wood, salt finally, vanilla return; the malt is present, as roasted with ovomaltine.
the mouth leaves on kernel of cooked almond, on pepper, the smoke finally arrives, soft and dry, nutmeg sensation, clove
the fruits are well cooked and ironed on the edge of the fire, more marked by the grapes, a little candied prune and oranges with their zest, caramelized sensation and intense vanilla, then licorice, a little camphor too!
velvet in the bottom of glass.
the finish is long, alcohol begins to work by distilling woody and iodized scents (salty, finally dried seaweed) and fruits with their spices, feeling satiety anyway to the nostrils.

Once a "uncircumcised" Talisker 25yo in the glass, you should be spoiled for any castrated version. An all-round whisky, 25 years and cask strength are very excellent.
    • Nose
      93 93
Old oak planks, freshly cleaned. Orange peel, mint, lovage and dark chocolate (that would actually be a new chocolate recipe ...). Caramel sweets, creme brulee.
Chopped almonds and walnuts. If it were not for the subtle smoky note that sneaks past the oak tree, I would think of an old Speysider.
    • Taste
      93 93
Lays soft, velvety and tight on the tongue, fantastically incorporated alcohol. The oak sits directly on the tongue and hogs it. Orange leaves, tangerines, a touch of lime. Almonds and mint grated over the fruit. Some basil. Mild, "mature" smoke in dignity, not intrusive, but not too shy. Honey, vanilla, dark chocolate, toffee, malt candy - a handle in the confectionery department. Smoke and oak provide a rounding balance. After a while cardamom, cinnamon, some aniseed, liquorice.
    • Finish
      92 92
The oak planks protrude into the finish, accompanied by the spices that showed on the tongue after a while.

If you try this one in a tasting, make sure you put him at the end. This one is a real killer, a giant of a malt. If you compare this style with the newer versions of the Talisker 25 you will get tears in you eyes. This one seems to be out of another universe. I bought this one nerly 10 years ago for 100€!
    • Nose
A full and rich nose with a lot of aromas. Sweet cooked fruits like apples and cherries, vanilla, peat, iodine, earth, menthol, leather and even some farmy notes. I could sniff this one forever.
    • Taste
Oily and chewy. Very powerfull with sweet fruity notes at first, a lot of peat and iodine, vanilla even some sour notes appear.
    • Finish
The finish is very long and powerfull with all the aromas you had in the nose and the taste. A fight between sweet, dry and sour notes. Fruits, peat, herbs, salt etc.

  25. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Great whisky! An impetuous powerhouse with beautiful complexity and a long oak finish. You have to be careful with him. Although I am constantly drinking cask strength, but here is not wrong water.
    • Nose
Caramel, spiciness, salt, bright fruits, vanilla and everything storms at the same time on the nose. Roasted aromas and oak. The alcohol stings something in the nose. It becomes a bit more fruity with water.
    • Taste
Hui, he has a lot of strength, almost too much of it, he is inclined to add water. Pepper, sure, is there too. Vanilla, salt and a nice spiciness and fruitiness.
    • Finish
eternally long finish with liquorice, coffee and gum

  26. malt_fan_06 scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Another beautiful old Talisker. With the 25yo before 2010 you can do little wrong.
Water opens it a little and makes it a little more maritime and rounder, but beware, just a few drops.
    • Nose
Starts with distinct geraniums and undergrowth notes, followed by mineral and maritime tones (seaweed, shell shells). In between, there is always a flash of fruit: orange peel, peach, grapefruit. Leather. Dense, elegant. Slight alcoholic tingling in the nose.
    • Taste
Starts silky, full and round. Then the typical chilli catch rolls up fast, it becomes intense and powerful, fiery. Masculine. Again clearly maritime and mineral, citrus, pickaxe, peach, seaweed, mussel shells, salty, a little honey. Add some smoke.
    • Finish
Geranium, citrus and clearly peach, chili-catch, maritime tones, fine smoke. Aromatic and intense. Warms up nicely. Comes in waves and wears a long time.

a great part - but until now I'm not sure - if he would not be much better without smoke - the special flavors from the old barrels are somewhat obscured by the smoke - even if he adds his own note
    • Nose
dusty oak, honey, jasmine tea, cinnamon, licorice, mint, crystalline lemon, creamy buttery delicate ripe oak that turns into flower scent of roses and dried flowers, a touch of anise, especially when you breathe very flat shows a very delicate very complex warm sweetness Wood note, freshly cut with resins and spices
    • Taste
noble sweetness with fine flower aromas flows gently over the tongue, sour fruit flashes then comes delicate old smoke, some ashes, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, licorice and mint - gently warming - a tiny drop is enough to fill the whole mouth - at Chewing shows even more flowers and oak tones - wow
    • Finish
sweet with flowers, intense woody notes - like split wood in the sun - no bitterness, spices - harmony

quite similar to the 2006 in addition retained. The pepper attack is made earlier in development. This one is a bit shorter. (if we want to quibble) Let's get along well, it's still stellar quality

  32. Bishlouk scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Nose: Very close to that of batch 2006. Sweet, malty. Sweet spices, almost comely. Palate: Vigorous, peppery. Apricot syrup. Sweetness and roundness. Finale: Peppery spices in the throat, but which settle more quickly than in the 2006 batch. Verdict: Pretty close to the batch 2006 on the nose, but (a hair) less attractive and less balanced in the mouth. 91/100 . (Note made in the context of a face to face of all Talisker 25y in barrel.)

    Very pleasant - great!

The nose offers very much things - for me the best here.

Very good 'drinkable' without water - a round & perfect Talisker!

FineSpirits_butler1 and me like it very much! (January 2016)
    • Nose
Apples and pears, apricots, chocolate, peat, citrus: much candied peal and lemon juice, scouring milk, overheated motor, cold grill with some ashes, cellar, some sweet marmalade, grilled mackerel with lemon juice, almond milk with some bacon on leather - with peat, mocha praline, cherry jam, cherry praline, 'Schwarzwälder Schinken' (Black Forest ham), some maltiness, chocolate splashed with a bit of seawater - goes to pure saltwater, pine needles, oak, pepper, smoking coals, rough Kalbsleberwurst (with the white peal), meaty aromas fight with sweet ones, caramel sweetness, dried corn flowers with a lavender branch between, church bench, distant cold incense, bath additive, clear glue (TL) or adhesive (AF).
    • Taste
Salt and fruit sweetness, cherries and cherry jam, leather, citrus, pure lemon, peat, coniferous forest, coals, oranges, wood, dark chokolate, ashes, maltiness, some coffee ground, pepper, caramel notes, white wine (TL), bark, cocoa powder, smoke, charred wood, autumn leaves.

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:

Talisker 25 yo (58.1%, OB, refill casks, bottled 2007, 6894 bottles) Colour: gold. Nose: on the one hand, this is more brutal and more peppery than the 1970, but on the other hand, it’s more honeyed and candied as well. Unexpected notes of strawberry jam, the general profile being seemingly rounder and fruitier than both the previous and the 2008 versions of the Talisker 25. Other than that we do have the traditional notes of pepper, seashells and apples, with a great beefiness (bouillon as well) and quite some almonds just like in the 1970. With water: yes it works very well! We’re getting closer to the 1970 now. More flowery notes, not so usual in Talisker (yellow flowers, nectar). Camphor and eucalyptus. Fantastic. Mouth (neat): I had thought that despite its very high profile, this one would be in trouble after the legendary 1970 but it’s not the case at all. Sure this is a little less ‘beautifully mingled’ and a little rougher but otherwise it’s a very rich, fruity, spicy and wonderfully oaky Talisker. It’s just a tad too powerful when neat, so let’s see what happens with water. With water: works well, the profile doesn’t change much (maybe a little more salt and more crystallised lemon) but it got more, say ‘drinkable’s. Finish: long, balanced, rich and very, very ‘Talisker’. Comments: a big, big dram but not lacking complexity, maybe thanks to the refill casks. SGP:546 – 92 points.

Even for Talisker standards this is something special. A massive, delicious whisky that is worth every penny. I was lucky to get this cheap, but even at normal price I would consider it!
    • Nose
That peaty but sweet aroma, so typical for Talisker, is here. Drying, sharp on the nose (less with water). Fruity as well, surprisingly soft. Sophisticated and warming, a complex but delicious nose.
    • Taste
Starts off mild, sweet, inviting. Then comes that Talisker explosion, but somehow not as rough as with the younger versions. A bitter edge to the sweet vanilla and fruit is a welcome distraction, and at the swallow you can feel it go down all the way to your stomach. Also some nice salty sea-breeze and malt.
    • Finish
A warm glow of vanilla sweetness, woody bitterness, fruity freshness and sea-breeze saltiness. This has every box ticked. Long lingering spice, soft sweetness, simply a treat.

So far the best tasting of the Talisker 25yo's I have tasted (also the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008). Heavy enough for the cold days, sweet
enough for the warmer days. Adding water doesn't make the notes very different, it will emphasize them though. I love this one!
    • Nose
Typical Talisker, dry, but full and rich. Scent of autumn
and dark fruits (cherry), a bit smokey.
    • Taste

Less peppery than the 10yo and 18yo, but still you
can taste it. Bit salty liquorice, taste of (oak)wood. Also sweetened
fruits (compote/jam). Even (very far away) a little bit floral.
    • Finish

      salty and sweet.
