'Dare to be different' is what they aim for at Teeling, and in that they have succeeded. Using casks from Cooley distillery, they give their Single Malt a craft presentation which is unusual for Irish whisky. On the nose, grainy and floral notes combine with lemon oil, honeydew melon and a touch of ginger. The palate features green apples, shortbread and aniseed, followed by white pepper, sour citrus fruits and herbaceous bitterness. Hints of vanilla, oak spices and lingering freshness remain in the medium finish. A malt with character despite its young age.

Excellent Irish whisky at a very affordable price under 40 euro (I paid 37,50 euro each for my bottles). Sweet and fruity dessert dram. Maybe too sweet for some people if you don’t have a sweet tooth like me. It was a big surprise when poured blind to some whisky buddies during a recent cheese and whisky pairing event that I organized at home. Everybody really liked it and rated it much higher than the average rating here on WB. Not very surprising because cheese and wine are a good match as well and this whisky has an outspoken wine finish. My favourite Irish standard expression together with the Redbreast 12y 40% which is also a true bang-for-your-buck under 40 euro a bottle. Teeling Single Malt also tastes good without cheese!

Immediately cow dung in the nose. Where does it come from? Then fruits. Getting darker but not really cute. Alcohol in the background, beautifully integrated. A little bitter remains. Otherwise really a very nice whisky. Pleases.

My first Irish whisky! A step aside from Scotch, with a peculiar and complex wood combination from wine casks, that’s already clear from the fruity and floral nose.
Taste reveals crispy and a bit spicy, yet with some vanilla sweetness and pleasant crispy cereal notes. Once the initial fruity flavours fade, hints of fresh grass, chocolate and liquorice prevail, leaving a smooth finish, balanced between oak and slightly sour/sweet (white) wine lingering finish.
Of course I can't have many comparisons, but surely it's goodquality for the price.

  10. Thermidor scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

The distillate does not convince me at all. I prefer most entry level Scotch OBs to this. Every now and then it works well on the tongue, but the finish is always a letdown.
    • Nose
Reminds me at first of a naked Spey whisky, with apple cider, freshly cut concorde pears, and some touches of oak and cinnamon, but this piercing spirity note that occasionally mars it makes it unbalanced. Occasional musty aromas, maybe from the wine casks in the recipe? Every now and then it's sweet, fruity, and appealing, and at other times it collapses into a boozy mess.
    • Taste
Lighter on the tongue than 46 % would lead you to expect, almost ethereal. Light gummy candy sweetness and a fairly strong booze bite, plus some spices. Pears again, and some light perfume. After a while in the mouth it loses some of its sharpness and feels more pleasant...
    • Finish
...but then I swallow and things go wrong. The finish is spirity, metallic, and tangy. Luckily it's short, but can it be said to be a perk in a whisky that the finish is short so you'll suffer less? Not really. At the very end a hazelnut-like woody bitterness emerges.

A pleasant fruity, not-as-Irish-tasting-like-a-single-pot-still-whisky, malt. Sourced from one of the big Irish distilleries, not a Teeling original to be sure. Fairly priced, good alternative to Scotch entry level single malts.

    - good Irish single malt at a fair price
    - stored in 5 barrels (Bourbon, Sherry, Madeira, Rum and Sauternes)
    - You don't notice anything from the rum barrel, but the many barrels are a specialty for the "simple" single malt
    • Nose
Sherry dominates, pleasantly fruity, light character, the second impression shows the sweetness of the Sauternes or Madeira barrel
    • Taste
Irish mild style, fruity, raisins, powerful start, mouth-filling, taste stays in the mouth for a long time

Enjoyable single malt, typically Irish I'd say. On the sweeter side of the spectrum but lovely and fresh overall. Good stuff!
    • Nose
Full-bodied sweetness, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, oak, baked apple pie, crème brûlée.
    • Taste
Pretty consistent with the nose, honey-like along with a mouth drying spicy sensation. A few drops of water balance it out nicely, makes it a bit less sweet and accentuates the spiciness.
    • Finish
Spicy, white pepper, pretty long lasting overall.

This is a great soft fruity sensation, exactly on strength, quite complex, freshly sweet, flawless, a lifelong friend. Some character poverty perhaps, there are no pronounced corners or landmarks. The ABV is completely perfect for my taste. The barrels that are tipped here, sherry, port, madeira, white burgundy and cabernet sauvignon provide the varied colorful spectacle that you can expect. More than excellent price / quality. Don't lean for long, call Teeling.

      Colour:
      Nice golden

      Nose:
The colleague starts very sour and immature for me. Green bananas, unripe peach and few drops of lemon juice. He generally smells very young. I mean something wall paint and rauszurie Hustentee. The longer I try it, the more comes a smell reminiscent of freshly cut grass. The alcohol is very clear and clean throughout the story. Not pushy, but always present. The longer I stand, the more obvious is the sour note and also the youthful character.
    • Taste
Soft, almost tender start. But peppery with NEN certain Küchengewürz. Unfortunately, do not know which one. At the second sip more citrus fruits and dry white wine. Reminds me of Frankenwein. Green, unripe grapes. Again, the green banana and some marzipan. In general, it tastes very young, fresh and immature.
    • Finish
Short to medium. First, a little peppery. Then light fruit sweets with a little vanilla. In the end, the metallic undertone remains.

I'm really not a big fan of Teeling and therefore did not expect much from this starter malt.
The filling has surprised me but then with its fruity aromas and the delicious taste. Of course, the whole thing is kept pretty simple and quickly forgotten.
    • Nose
The young-looking nose is dominated by a lot of bright fruits, like apples, peaches and pears, as well as aromas of grass, green tea and cherries.
    • Taste
The taste is clearly marked by wine gum. Behind it you can taste malt, some wood and a little caramel. The fruitiness of the nose is almost completely gone.
    • Finish
The finish is relatively short, but with malt, nutmeg and cloves a nice spicy taste portfolio.

A very fruity whisky without edges and without overstraining. The influence of the individual barrels make it complex and you get a wealth of fruit flavors. The creaminess stands out clearly, it is almost viscous and creamy. A fruit cocktail with sugar edge, I like - 09.07.2017

I’m generally a sucker for well made Irish whisky, and this delivers. Wonderful nose and good palate. The finish is a bit short, probably due to it’s young age. At this price point, it’s a whole lotta bang for not a lot of buck.http://whiskyinformer.com/home/teeling-single-malt
    • Nose
An explosion of fruits. Pear, apple, some plums and grapes. The port is showing it’s influence too. Hazelnuts on top, accompanied by a doughy note. Some astringency in there too.
    • Taste
An oily mouthfeel. Loads of honey coming through at first. A mineral note in there as well. It takes some time for it to develop further, but when it does, you’ll get some of the fruits promised by the nose: stewed pear, green apple and melon. It develops a nice waxy note too.
    • Finish
Some vanilla, the stewed pear continues, slightly salty. It’s quite a short finish.

Tasty ier. The nose is the highlight. Juicy, fruity with apple, pineapple, coconut, vanilla, cake and spicy. Body is somewhat thinner. Finish is rather spicy with parsley and thyme and unfortunately a somewhat volatile bitter finish, characteristic of a young whisky. Nice, but not yet fully grown. For an Irishman, on the other hand, one of the best I have. Except for the yellow spot and redbrest.

Beautiful Everyday Dram, like over and over again, nothing is intrusive, a lot there, the fruit salad in the nose is unparalleled. Notes from an online chat tasting on Teeling.
    • Nose
Nice fruit cocktail, as good as fruit salad, everything you are looking for. He has something very light medical about it, as well as any drops against anything. Over it tender acid notes, not really tangible. Of alcohol is not much noticeable. A very appetizing nose makes you want to taste it. For the amount of processed barrels but very little complex. Warms up a touch of soap again, the fruits disappear, it becomes stronger but monotonous. No, he does not like heat either. Some caramel, maybe vanilla. Overall, denser.
    • Taste
As happens much more, fruity comes along with sweets, but is not too sweet, keeps up well with the acidity. There is something well-known here, but it can not work, probably from Madeira. Very late also some oak, which occupies the mouth to the finish. Despite the many wine barrels, he does not come at all invited.
    • Finish
Dries off significantly, although light sweetness remains, the oak tannins literally occupy the tongue and throat, the whole thing is medium long.

What better way to celebrate St Patrick’s Day than with an evening of six whisky’s, hosted by Dave Broom.
N: Theres a misconception that most Irish whisky is triple distilled from pot still. This is double distilled single malt. I nosed pineapple cubes, candied bananas, roily-polly, jam tarts, lime custard, clay, and a floral perfume. Lots of promise pointing in many a direction.
T: Needs a dash of water as its a little raw, peppery and green - its not out of control however. Time allows the pepperiness to fade but it can’t get past its rawness. Grapes and unripe apple notes most highlight the immaturity. More water improves the mouthfeel.
F: Fades quickly but the slightly clean & dry remnants are good. Grain finish.
C: Lovely nose but the rest needs more time on the clock. Im guessing this is between 6-8 years old. Reckon this could be happening 12-18 years as theres plenty of energy up front and complexity on the nose. Next up, Jameson’s WB

One of the most beautiful Irishmen who have been in my glass so far. The mixture of five different barrels harmonizes surprisingly well and is well balanced. So much complexity, however, makes it a little difficult to discover an independent character and may be too much in the end. Neither in the nose nor on the palate I could separate the individual barrels in their characteristics from each other. But that is whining on a very high level - the Teeling Single Malt is in its overall image an excellent whisky with a great PLV that does not have to hide a bit from the established Scots!
    • Nose
Juicy tart grapefruit and a wonderfully strong brown cane sugar, vanilla, creamy caramel, alcohol is only present at the beginning, unripe bananas, some beautiful tropical fruits,
    • Taste
A creamy honey sweetness, freshly mown grain, picked herbs, plums, strong tart oak tones, gooseberry compote,
    • Finish
In the rather long finish, especially a fine tart seasoning and an aromatic fruit cocktail and juicy lemons hang and then come out beautiful notes of wine with both dry and fruity-sweet aromas to the fore, which I previously could not perceive

An interesting whisky. A bit too spicy for my taste. Complex and somehow complex.
    • Nose
Fine fruity, a hint of apricots and tangerines. Sweetness and vanilla are noticeable. A slight sharpness penetrates through the fruity nose.
    • Taste
The first sip is immediately sharpness in the foreground. Wood sharpens the sharpness in the mouth. For a moment, some fruit flashes, then grapefruit and peppery pungency dominate. A dry mouthfeel arises. Slight bizzling is noticeable on the palate.
    • Finish
Bitter wood, peppery spiciness and cozy warmth dominate the finish. Grapefruit and bitter wood again. At the very end of the finish, an immature walnut flavor is created.

    • Nose
(Wishful thinking ;))
    • Taste
Kraakheldere fruitige binnenkomst.
    • Finish
lang, mild en zelfs ietsjes zoet. Appelmoes?

    • Nose
Very complex nose with a mix of dark fruits, subtle herbal notes with a slight pungency
    • Taste
Extremely sweet and complex with herbs. Develops a certain sharpness.
    • Finish
long with clear hints of licorice

A pleasant and thoroughly enjoyable whisky with a good balance of
delicate tropical fruit and prickling spice. Deliciously creamy, spicy
and full of flavours. A nice summer dram!

I thank Irish Whiskys for the sample!

    • Nose
Aromatic, fresh and sweet with yellow tropical fruit, apricot, peach,
banana, and melon complemented by lingering citrus notes. Oily and
creamy. Delicate vanilla cream arrives with subtle toffee and a pleasant
touch of herbs, mainly cloves with a whiff of geranium and subtle oak.
    • Taste
Smooth, even velvety on the palate with a delicate fruity sweetness,
peaches and lots of pear, along with delicate vanilla and subtle citrus
notes. Bold waves of spices appear on the middle with white pepper,
cinnamon, lingering oak and slightly bitter herbs. Very nice.
    • Finish
Sweet and warm, even hot, with a medium to long finish. Crisp malt and
subtle toffee. Gets drier in the end with oak spice, but stays sweet
      still with a caramel tail.

WITH WATER: More intense, even vibrant on
the nose with lots of tropical fruit and spices. Pleasantly creamy and
sweet on the palate along with a huge amount of peaches and a squeeze of
citrus fruit on the palate, leading to a tamed spicy finish.

    Nose :
I think they call this a meaty whisky. The worm-tub smell, can not describe it otherwise. Vanilla sugar, wood, caramel with cream, zeeuws girl syrup. AAARGH I know this smell ........
Sweet tropical fruit. A greasiness that smells like in confused cherries. Everybody knows I know what I mean now.
Florist after a minute or 5 together with white chocolate.

    Taste :
Sweet-sour sauce from the Chinese. Dust as in 'dust', Fresh wood. Tins, all of which have a different color and taste the same as the plastic-you never get from it.

    Body :
    Full of fat and creamy

    Finish :
medium-long. Canned tropical fruit. That wood flavor comes and goes.

    • Nose

I don't know, there's something I don't like about this whisky. It tastes way too young and the nose is super sweet.
    • Nose
Fresh and sweet (maybe even too sweet) with some marzipan and marshmallows, combined with a thin layer of tropical fruit (banana, peach and oranges) and some light floral notes (geraniums). Becomes greener with time.
    • Taste
Flowery, but also some green veggies and vanilla. Not so sweet anymore. A slight bitterness, cactus juice. Spices in the background, some white pepper (not much though) and maybe cumin.
    • Finish
Spicy at first, than fruity with apples and pears.

    • Taste
Sweet and fruity. Honeydew melon. Coward. Apple juice. Caramel. Getting oilier. In the background oak. Milk chocolate.
    • Finish
Long. Mild entrance. Apples. Caramel pudding. Vanilla. Peaches. Apricots. Surprisingly much oak. Dark chocolate.

beautiful Irishman. I like it. The manchaml slightly obtrusive note in the Irish whisky, especially at Bushmills and the Tillamore Dew Malt is here only discreetly felt. I like that.
    • Nose
very sweet and fruity (Doesen peach). A lot of vanilla. Light and lovely. Fruity, sweeter and pleasanter does not work.
    • Taste
relatively strong at the beginning, then come the typical Irish notes, if not so strong, in the mouth much fresher and not so lovely. But he is fine.
    • Finish
some oak, fruity, grapes, vanilla and a little of the typical "Irish notes".

  67. JohannesB scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Wonderfully balanced between fruit and spice. No aspect dominates, everything changes extremely pleasantly. The highlight for me is the nose - like a journey into a realm of tropical fruits in a summery paradise. I was skeptical whether the variety of barrels used (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon) can be well coordinated - but it succeeded. For the price of around 40 EUR an absolute recommendation, in my view close to the much older Bushmills 21.
    • Nose
Sweet, summery fruits: honeydew melon, grapefruit, mango and peach. Behind it vanilla and toffee. With the time always citruslastiger, crisper and fresher. Granny Smith, pineapple and sour peach rings (Haribo). Oak wort or an alcohol sting you look in vain.
    • Taste
The mouth is lined as if with a topping of fruit puree - in a very individual mouthfeel. At the beginning sweet honey melon, lemon and dried fruit: figs, apple slices, passion fruit. Then the white wine barrels take the lead. Quickly drying with nuts, some pepper and tender oak.
    • Finish
Long, fruity and still drier. Caramel pudding and dried fruits. Again, the sweet lemon is present. At the very end some tannins appear and set a pleasant counterpoint.

The strength of whisky lies in the beauty of its nose and the fruity mouth. This one is a bit short and betray some youth more than likely this NAS. And above all an unbeatable value for money. Dram anti headache par excellence. More than recommendable!

  72. markjedi1 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    Great as an aperitif,
but also matches well with a sweet dessert like pastry with fruit. Good
    strength, but can take water.
    • Nose
      It is soft, syrupy
and immensely fruity on the nose. Sweet apples, melon, fresh figs, overripe
cherries and some citrus. Just a tad of oak that translates into vanilla and
cloves. Becomes sweeter as you leave it to breath. Be careful when adding water
though, for that suppresses the fruitiness somewhat and brings more wood to the
      fore.
    • Taste
      It is succulent and
sweet, but very spicy up front. Think cloves, white pepper, ginger and some
liquorice. The fruit is still very present, but now more like the dried
variety. Think peach and apples, but also melon and figs. Somewhat zesty which
makes it a bit prickling. Very good. Diluted it loses some sweetness, but never
      becomes too dry.
    • Finish
      The finish is not
overly long, but certainly long enough. It remains spicy and becomes a bit dry
      at the very end.

I'm not sure if / how I like it - it's too spicy for easy-drinking, but it's not enough for an interesting one either, the variety of beats does not noticeable, it's not bad, but I'm not sure where to find it mentally should pack.
    • Nose
sweet, vanilla, honey, butter biscuits, some water dissolves light, fresh, cool fruit flavors, melon, grapes, pear
    • Taste
spicy-sweet, again honey, dried fruit, spicy sharpness (pepper, cloves), after a long time more and more chocolate
    • Finish
medium in length, chocolate, slightly hot

We'll be seeing a fair share of beauties from Teeling Whisky Company. Knowing that the real Spirit of Dublin has yet to arrive, the Teeling brothers are already walking the path with their Single Grain, Small Batch and this Single Malt created from the stock of their father's former distillery.

This Teeling Single Malt could become serious competition for Redbreast, my favourite Irish whisky at the moment. It already has the advantage of a better (read: lower) price tag and has that unmistakable Irishness that makes it a lovely aperitif.
    • Nose
The flavours are substantially fruity with a hint of vanilla and clove. I'm thinking of fruit salad with Charentais melon, lemon and cherries. Vanilla waffles, sweet apples and 'Limburgse vlaai' (tart) with blueberries. After some time there are wood flavours emerging. I'd even say dust or sawdust.

A single drop of water releases the spicyness of the whisky and makes it lose some of its sweetness. Dry oak is the flavour that stands out now.
    • Taste
The whisky is still fruity on the palate, but it's less pronounced then on the nose. More like dried figs and spicy apples. Even some clove, lemon zest and ginger.

With a few drops of water (or when you keep it in your mouth for a while) it becomes drier. Again those wood flavours reappear with a fair dash of pepper.
    • Finish
The aftertaste is dry and spicy. A lovely warm and long finish with hints of pine nut oil and Madeira wine.

It was my first Teeling whisky and I liked the experience. A nice price/quality ratio and a pleasant, summer dram.
    • Nose
Alcohol masked by butter, biscuits, loads of flowers, honey. Delicate and inviting.
    • Taste
Sweet, very sweet. White sugar, honey, candies. Floral and light.
    • Finish
Sweet, white sugar, white chocolate. Quite short.
