Third time tasting this. Yup, no change. Same 91 points.
    • Nose
Heavy and condensed, yet quite refined. Beautiful peat. Good complexity. Sweet, peaty, smoky, hint of sourness. More aromatic with air.
    • Taste
Yea, beautiful, man... Great ABV. I love this more than the 45.7% recent stuff.
    • Finish
Consistently good across the board. 91 points.

  2. valery77 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Initially discreet, gradually unfolding, complex. Apricot jam, light smoke and peat, sweet pastries, plum wine, lollipops, new furniture, varnish and polish (very, very delicately), oriental spices, a new tree, a little perfume, a slight hint of pine needles and juniper. 23
    • Taste
Moderately dry, full-bodied, powerful. Black pepper, oriental spices and spices, ascorbic acid, creamy caramel, red apple, plum wine, light smoke and peat, fruit drops, oak tannins. 22
    • Finish
Long, warming, smoothly fading, tannin, slightly astringent, with a pleasant oak bitterness at the end. 23
At first, the fragrance does not promise great miracles, but then everything falls into place. Whisky is pleasantly zasublen (although someone may find that the tree in the taste and finish a bit too much). Balance 22.
      Total 90

Very high quality. Oily, old sherry, subtle smoke. Great balance, and perfect ABV. Second time I am tasting this, and it goes from 90 to 91 points.

This one needs a little bit air. Then it becomes really good.

I'm just going through a little vertical of HP 25yo. Directly compared with the 25yo bottling from 2000 I prefer the 2000 bottling because of it's nose and spicyness. This one bottled 2004 is a bit fruitier on the palate but has more leathery finish.
    • Nose
Honey, fruits, hints of sherry wood - rather reluctant
    • Taste
Punchy and oily smooth, toffee, little citrus fruits, milk chocolate, very good sweetness
    • Finish
Medium long and warm, still subtle sweetness and smoothness, hints of leather in the end

This one deserves respect. I’m typically a fan of young peat, but this shows a level of sophistication that most younger pours can’t achieve. It has a great balance of everything I want in a scotch. Light peat/controlled sherry/balanced oak/sweet and slightly sour/earthy and fruity/oily and juicy
    • Nose
      91 91
Syrupy golden raisins, tobacco, almonds, light peat, milk chocolate , vanilla, saltine
    • Taste
      93 93
Oily, butter tart w/raisin, quite juicy on the palate, oak is here but not overwhelming, light spice, peat is barely noticeable now, lemon
    • Finish
      92 92
Medium/Long. Sherry notes appear most here to me leaving pleasant lingering notes of : plum, orange, cocoa powder, honey for quite some time.

To me this is what the word "balance" means. ABV, cask influence, age, a little peat, etc... Great whisky!
