Whisky Reviews for Ledaig 1973 IM

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 92.24 points

  1. hs305 scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

[December, 2011]  I found this dram in an advents calendar sampled by MaRa.

    In
my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  Unfortunately I took no detailed notes.

  2. St. Pauli scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

A whisky to fall in love with. It's so good, so soft, but dirty from the inside.
    • Nose
Ooh, I could nose this one for ages... It's farmy, nuty, peaty, and earthy. A perfect dirty whisky, at least from the nose. There is cow stable, horse shed, hay, oily and salty peat, moss, roasted almonds, licorice root, tobacco, menthol. The fruit is on the background, but there is some juicy peach and mango to be detected.
    • Taste
Oily, soft, silky, smooth... Something like that. The peat is not the main ingredient, but it's there. An earthy, licorice-like taste is central, along with cough syrup. Next to that, the roasted almonds are prominent, just as orange juice.
    • Finish
Long enough (although it doesn't last for ages). A bit of spiciness (pepper, clove) has emerged. Then, still nutty and earthy notes of licorice and cough syrup.

From the ball. Joins presto the list of great peaty sherry, next to Pe1 and Lagavulin 21yo.
    • Nose
Peaty, smooth and organic, a fruity nothing, in a word like a hundred, complex. Full of dried fruits (dried apricots, dried figs), undergrowth smells, humus, rotting wood, oily smoke and a little industrial (you have already burned a railroad crossing?), dried meat (grape meat), balsamic vinegar. Huge. After a long aeration with soy sauce, black mushrooms and dark chocolate.
    • Taste
From the attack, we feel that we are dealing with heavy. The peat is more direct than the nose, with a nice smoke that coats a cocoa heart mixed with tangy notes, like a cherry (dark chocolate enrobing a cherry with alcohol) or orangettes. No, a sour cherry and orangettes. Then come meaty notes, still soy sauce before the return of smoke and chocolate. It's slammed !!
    • Finish
Long enough, but we would like even more, mixture of woody / peaty and tart notes.

  5. Ivynor scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

About 88-89. Tranchons for 88+. An expensive product that gave me the impression of a younger whisky. It's a good sherry but I can not understand how can it exceed 90. A sample too airy? It's frustrating because I feel like I'm missing something big ...
    • Nose
In advance, we guess the creaminess, honey, caramel, a little smoke and vanilla.
    • Taste
It's not 31 years old ... what was I waiting for? Notes of green fruits, lemon, but also a good presence of sherry (lots of nuts, bitter cocoa, caramel). The entry in the mouth is quite explosive.
    • Finish
      Finale very sweet, melted, creamy.
