Whisky Reviews for Ardbeg 1973 DL

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 92.80 points

  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

Can Ardbeg duplicate this kind of style nowadays? It's a resounding NO. But as long as people keep on buying all their NAS's and 21/23 yo's with their astronomical price tags, they have no motivation to.
    • Nose
Very peaty and briny, smoky ash, somewhat vegetal, with a bit of fruity pungency -- if I didn't know better, I would have guessed this is a Port Ellen.
    • Taste
Good power, nice peat, again somewhat vegetal, some smoke, always with a thin layer of nondescript, unripened fruits. Resembles a very, very good Port Ellen. Smooth. No off-flavors at all. Just about perfect for this kind of style!
    • Finish
Medium-to-long finish, with a fine, lingering peatiness. A bit sweet at the end.

  2. helmutgw scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

Excellent restrained whisky that has much to offer.
You should not touch the water.
    • Nose
Very delicate, phenol, fruit - no alcohol.
Over time, the nose becomes even more sustainable!
    • Taste
Light body, but very intense taste, much better than No. 5583!
      Charcoal, fruit - slightly soapy?
      He becomes perfumed with water.
    • Finish
Long, sustainable, the charcoal is in the foreground.

Ardbeg 27y 1973/2000, 50%, DL Old Malt Cask, 240 bottles
Bingo! Great 'farmy' peat on the nose. That is the sweet and sour variant that reminds of wet hay, stables and the associated manure. He is also blessed 'coastal', with which we talk about salt, seaweed and iodine, that kind of thing. But also oysters. And which English terms can we still use? Well, 'fruity' of course. Quince, lime and pineapple. Light tones of rubber too. And milk chocolate. And pine needles. Chocolaty indeed. But especially: f # *! Ng great! This is really powerful to smell. The taste is equally powerful. Very complex. Intense and thick on the tongue. The farm, the sea, the fruit (citrus and kiwi, yes), the light rubber, it is also here. Together with herbs such as liquorice and ginger. And cocoa. And nuts. And marzipan. And light tar. And dried grass. Complex, I already said it. Very dry. Impressively long aftertaste. Phenomenal, one of the best old Ardbegs I could already taste. 95/100 http://onversneden.com/2013/02/19/ardbeg-27y-1973-old-malt-cask/
