Its minerality, its revendicated minimalism and its incredible easiness on the palate actually make this Kilkerran a belter of a "drinking whisky", given you like its DNA, close in that regard to some mineral white wines like a Pouilly-Fumé. I can't call that a surprise given that some reviews were already glowing, but I fully confirm this : it's no beginner's whisky, it's not for everyday or every mood, but it's a winner in its simplicity and idiosyncrasy.

Some earthy potatoes at first, which isn't unusual in young, very distillate-driven whiskies in my experience. Then gets very idiosyncratic with graphite, plaster, wet chalk and paint. Extremely spirit-driven indeed but with a certain creaminess behind. A light touch of mineral peat, some "textile" notes as I often find in naked Longrows or Springbanks, and a fair amount of shoe polish. I think you get the idea. Very mineral and industrial, but with real elegance. To counterbalance that, creamy sides with cocoa butter and unripe banana. Austere but singular whisky.

Perfect arrival with incredible textural softness and a nice crescendo of the alcohol, which starts almost unnoticeable upon touching the tongue (which is always a pleasure). Starts with the creamier elements, so cocoa butter and banana, a little vanilla. Then reaffirms itself on its former austerity with graphite, pepper and a coffee bean. Extremely naked and simple in its progression, served by a sublime softness, the whole making it very more-ish. Less is more.

Quite short. Graphite, pepper, bitter citrus zest. Maybe a bit of hessian, or some wet sand. Clean, begging for further sips.
