A PLV cracker for 20 euros. Of course, the wheel is not being reinvented, but a nice complexity with sufficient power on the palate and fine tannins to round it off make it easy to appear in the glass every day. Especially the lack of applied finish influences is positive. A nice down to earth blend.

Cereals, overripe apples, roasted aromas, good chocolate, caramel. Campfire smoke flashes, vanilla, hay, slightly tart.
    • Taste
      83 83
Amazingly soft, subtly sweet, strong malty, spiciness, light honey, pepper and light fruits.
    • Finish
      83 83
medium length with some bitterness. Now has a good bite, whereby the alcohol is still well integrated. Plus chocolate, malt, spices, walnuts

Despite the promising 46%, I actually like the 12-year-old "Regency" (WID 81944) at a mere 40% a lot better.

Grain is very apparent on the nose. Young spirit as well: acetone, pear eau-de-vie, apple juice, and a puff of smoke. Pretty unimpressive.
    • Taste
      79 79
Better. Nice, grippy, slightly oily texture, big honeyed sweetness, counterbalanced by tart tannins, a good deal of (slightly bitter) acidity and smoke. Still some heat and harshness, though.
    • Finish
      77 77
Bitter grain vies for dominance with honeyed malt and acrid smoke. Gets pretty darn bitter over time. Not boozy per se, though, which works in its favor.

The smell is very pleasant, surprisingly versatile and immediately arouses the desire to taste.
In the taste you can clearly see what whiskey actually is like with hardly any other whiskey: distilled beer.
    The finish completes the picture.

I am very positively surprised. This blend hardly has to hide behind a beginner's standard single malt, on the contrary. A real price/performance tip.
    • Nose
Light fruits, grapes, apples, pears, cereals, slightly tart, some grass, plus caramel and vanilla
    • Taste
Clear start, sweet, caramel, then becoming more sour, light, slightly tart beer, some peach
    • Finish
The finish is a reflection of the taste, albeit quite brief, with a slightly bitter memory

  10. Xaver did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
      Colour:
      Shiny gold

      Nose:
My first thought is forest. Dried leaves and limestone gravel. But then it gets a little more fruity. Light forest berries and chamomile. It smells more and more of chamomile tea. Pear compote and some canned peach. In return, dry wood and juniper berries.
    • Taste
Starts with a juicy woody taste. This is followed by bitter almonds and red currants. There's a taste in there that reminds me of apple red cabbage. With the second sip, an artificial plastic taste comes through. A mineral note and a dry spice taste are added. A hint of vanilla follows.
    • Finish
Medium. Bitter orange jam with a little vanilla. Followed by wood and a hint of sweet honey.

  11. Alex Fridays scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

This blended whisky is an interesting. It has sweet aroma with fruits and citrus notes, with a little bit cream and a very light peat. The palate starts with dried fruits sweetness, goes through the apple sourness to the peat, spicy and dry wood notes. The finish is a little bit longer than short and starts with peaty notes, goes with vanilla, wood and dried fruits notes.

This blended whisky is a good for thoughtful drinking at home. It’s necessary a time and attention to know this whisky well.

N- Sceptical to think that this is any good after the lame 12YO Regency. But were pleasantly surprise by the expressive aroma. No sign of weak or overly pungent young liquid in here, good malty sphere with full and lasting earthy notes, plenty of drunken cherry, honey and pear, some caramel but not cloying. Reasonably well packed with well integrated aromas.P- Milky and firm with good width of earthiness. Honey, butterscotch with bitter dark chocolate, rounded with hint of sweet smokes.

F- Medium, lasting earthiness for for a finely spicy and peppery finish. Thick texture with more butterscotch arriving at the end. Another quality blend.

a simple evening dram, without particularity but not unpleasant
    • Nose
spices, lemon, vanilla, a little woody, back cooked wine and malt!
    • Taste
spices still a little too present, then the combination lemon-orange-vanilla takes over, a little chocolate back
    • Finish
quite short, on the same "sensations"

N: Tomato-ey vanilla blended malt with a modern-styled oily-malty potency. All credit to Inver House for the 46% abv.
T: Edgy vanilla with a sweet-sour middle and a fair oily/fatty mouthfeel in the midst.
F: Slightly metallic and fruity dry tannic vanilla.
C: I’ve no problem with this blend but there are plenty of alternatives for the price [£19 Oct ‘17], including the odd single malt.Scores a D

  15. AdelphosHume scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

At it's full 46%, it's hard to get much from it, so I added about a teaspoon of water to about 50ml of whisky, gave it a gentle swirl, and let it sit for a few minutes. Definitely better with a bit of water. It may not have the body or peated influence of Teacher's, but it makes up for it with greater range and complexity.
    • Nose
Pear liqueur, honeycomb with a bit of dunnage earthiness, maple-sugar malt, orange peel and oil, fresh red and green apples with a touch of sweetly floral peat.
    • Taste
Honeyed malt with a touch of sweet floral peat, oak and baking spice, a touch of raisins.
    • Finish
Citrus and drying earthy tannins, fades to dark coffee and bitter chocolate

fresh blend, with green scents (apples, pear, grass), which is best appreciated at low t °, to regouter ... in summer!
a simple basic whiskey, which corresponds to the Scottish taste .... as we can imagine in France!
