Oh man, this is good. I love sweet honey/barley/tropical bombs, and this one delivers in spades. There’s good richness throughout, the nose is complex and layered, the development is extended, the finish is long and satisfying. This stands up really well to the older single-sherry-cask Arrans I’ve tried. It really doubles down on those tropical and creamy notes. I love it, and I’m going to have to find some. Hopefully there are some bottles from this cask still around at auction.

Nose: Bright and juicy. Ripe peaches, banana, mango, prunes, fresh flowers, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk. Sweet, almost candied malted barley, with graham crackers and earthy undertones. Some tartness from tangy citrus peels. Slightly nutty, slightly green, perhaps some salted sunflower seeds. Some slightly musty dried herbs, with clove and lots of nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon.

Palate: Medium-thick texture. Sweet and floral arrival, with white cherries and bananas. Tart and tropical, before a wave of vanilla and grapefruit. Rich, thick malted barley, almost savoury. Some fragrant oak on the development, maybe closer to sandalwood or teak. Lots of honey here, with vanilla and butter and a hint of black pepper. Fragrant hibiscus, passionfruit, almonds, sage, and more of those white cherries. Toasted coconut towards the back end.

Finish: Medium-long. Soft tropical fruit. Fresh-baked macaroons, yellow plums, lemon meringue pie, honey, nougat, and white chocolate. Some gentle mint.

Rich, sherried nose with plenty of dark fruits and Christmas cake, but not at the expensive of the wonderful, fruity base Arran spirit (allowing notes of citrus fruits, marzipan, crisp barley and honey to come through). Great stuff, indicating both a high-quality spirit and excellent cask selection. Beautifully balanced on the palate too, with some peppermint appearing alongside rich sherry fruits, coffee and some roast hazelnuts. Medium-length, sweet and peppery finish. Really lovely stuff. I'm definitely coming to appreciate the sherried Arran profile. Not quite as 'stellar' as the recent fino cask distillery-only release, but a top notch, dangerously drinkable dram.
