Certainly a status symbol from Ichiro's Malt. But I think others from the card series are much better. I am bothered by the smoke, which is not very strong, but still too strong for me. You can tell it is not a single Malt. I will sell my remaining 2 to one sometime in the future and not open any.

A 5cl birthday sample that appeared a while ago. Certainly generous and certainly the Hanyu Joker adds even more dignity and elegance to the occasion of savouring it.

A fantastic old school japanese whisky nose. One of those that they don't seem to make anymore in these times. When nosing my fantasy of an olde English Club pops up - which is usually a fantastic sign. Same today. From freshly polished cabinets and tables, to heavy leather armchairs, the tick- tocking clock, newspaper ink and newspapers being turned and a crackling fire. A heavy carpet absorbs all other noises and time seems to stand still.

The sherry casks are very well backed by the bourbon casks, giving structure and backbone. Candied oranges mixed with a 60% chocolate and a piece of juicy pineapple for freshness, roasted hazelnuts, and a ristretto hot and fresh from the barista. The leather, wood and furniture polish come with the surroundings.
It certainly has a big kick in the mouth, inserting fresh energy rather than youth, on the cirtussy side with a creme caramel touch, perhaps even with a note of a 50+ yo brandy.
The finish is lighter (not shorter!) than the nose lead me to expect, though it is absolutely in line with what develops during the taste.
Wood, nutmeg and cinnamon stay longest in an energetic finish which keeps a very pleasant freshness with orange peel at the very end.

Certainly this sample makes me wish for many more birthdays and presents like these. ;-) Thank you, S..

Great, characterful Malt. Has these hard-to-describe, spicy-herbaceous, exotic tones that I've had with several high-quality Japanese malts and that make them special.
The alcohol is perfectly integrated and never felt.
Water opens it up and makes it even more complex.
    • Nose
      92 92
Dense, compact. Jasmine, exotic wood notes, spicy-herbaceous. Undergrowth, vanilla. Slightly smoky green tea.
With water: malty tones, tea leaves, apricot and some coniferous woods are added. Sandalwood, orange and orange blossom. Flowery undertones.
    • Taste
      92 92
Spicy, full of character. Compact, neat power. Rich volume. To chew. Gradually fruity undertones come through. Pencil.
With water: becomes more masculine, more powerful, even fuller and a bit sharper. Tea leaves, mint, jasmine.
    • Finish
      90 90
      Spicy, long. Malting, pencil, sandalwood.
With water: spicy, herbaceous, intense. Tea leaves, jasmine. Dry and slightly dry.

The nose is quite austere, but the mouth is really nice in its style.
    • Nose
Nose quite light despite the 57.5%. We are on a rather sherry nose in my opinion, without too much fruity that stands out. We have above all camphor and terciar aromas. Pretty earthy, undergrowth, a little pu ehr. A light woody and bare leather. A light lemon veil.
    • Taste
In the mouth, continue in the terciary. The earth, the humus. Tobacco A little blackberry jam. Everything is well wrapped by the wood of the drum.
    • Finish
Long finish on the wood, miélée. There is a veil of smoke. Slightly lemony.

Had the pleasure to taste the Color Joker directly in the Chichibu Distillery. The uproar was of course great, so my judgment is a bit emotional. The whisky was good to me, but unfortunately I can not provide a detailed description. Typically Hanyu stop.
08/27/2017 2nd tasting at home: Slightly smoky on the nose, so that it just goes through with me. The mood is not upset, as in the Distillery Chichibu. Newer Chichibu's I like better today. The rarity and the coolness of the bottle make up the bigger part of the price. There is a long finish, but it does not convince me on the whole line. You notice the age, but the longer I drink it, the more the aftertaste of the smoke bothers me. I once had a bottle, which I sold. If I still had the today, I would sell it. I will not confirm the 92 points today.
On new german: Schmekke Stoh is on fire. I do not want this wisgi. Ashtray has tsufil, man. It is not crass, but it is not nitric

Appearance: Medium deep to deep amber.
Nose: Sweet, spicy wood. Not much change after watering, except for sweeter wood (86)
Taste: Very intense taste. Toffee, wood spice, dry with an underlying sweetness. Medium long aftertaste. After a good dose of water: still amazing concentration and richness, lots of sweet wood spiciness (94)
    Total: 92 points.
