A very nice surprise. Really a lovely dram.

Really nice. Honeysuckle, lemon oil, vanilla, toffee, apricot jam, icing sugar, a bit of hay. If anybody had poured me this and said it was a lowlands whisky they could have fooled me. As it opens up, a slight hint of smokey notes show up though, along with light roasted pinecones and light minty notes. Fruity, fresh, sweet. Very nice nose.

Good start. A little woolly on the pallet, nice and thick, very chewy. Starts off with a good dose of muscovado sugar sweetness, even some icing sugar, a good amount of barley and cereals, some toffee, really an old school style full of cereals and toffee. Some tiny oaky notes, a little bitterness from freshly cut grass, very light smoke. Really nice, very good balance. Second chew is fuller and brings very light notes of ginger and peppermint, sweet red apple, more smoke, definitely more toffee, even some hazelnut sweetness. A little bit of dried apricot. Slight notes of prune or plum jam. Light cigar or tobacco notes. Definitely not bad. Third chew is super fat and oily, very juicy and mouthwatering. Ginger and black pepper brings good spice, but also tons of barley, muscovado sugar, rich smoke. Really, really nice. I can't believe I never tasted this one before.

Sweetness comes down first, and we're left with something slightly drier, still a good dose of smoke, ginger, definitely more oak, smokey, bitter wood, but there is luckily still some sweetness to balance things out, like a peppermint lollipop or something. Smooth and very nice.
