Whisky Reviews for Glen Garioch 1990 SV

The nose makes a lot and I like it very much, but unfortunately, this impression is no longer in the taste and finish, where the Malt tongue-playing, but not palate-filling.
    • Nose
      88 88
The first contact with the nose transports sweet bright fruits and a touch of freshly washed laundry into the olfactory bulb. Green apples, juicy pears, the water of sugared canned mandarins. Behind, honey and vanilla come together, flanked by milk chocolate and some nougat. Slightly spicy over time, without being able to separate individual spices. The malt remains fresh and fruity despite the entering wort.
    • Taste
      84 84
Creamy and full with toffee, milk chocolate and almonds. The freshness and sweetness of the fruits from the nose did not make it to the tongue. Here peppery spice, harsh herbs, dry wood predominate - scurries relatively quickly over the tongue.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium to short, spicy, woody, dry. Chocolate pieces and cocoa.

Well, for 23Y really disappointingly weak and monotonous in the taste, that was nothing, as the average of over 87P comes to me forever a mystery.
    • Nose
Citrus, buttermilk, vanilla, fennel, later yeast and malic acid, lots of butter continue, interesting nose, I give him
    • Taste
Honey, toffee, a lot of citrus with caramel sweets, cream, a little oak, sweet and sour, that's it
    • Finish
Short (at least for 23y), sweet, citrus and bitter oak

Straight ahead without frills. Great multi-layered nose, rather easy in the mouth, but pleasantly oily and tasty. On the finish a bit too short but with a very pleasant combination of sweet and fine dry notes. He loses with water. Old school. Nice dram!
    • Nose
Distinct citrus zest, very malty and buttery. Many herbs that warm up and give way to a fennel note. He becomes even more buttery. Now sweet notes of vanilla and buttercream come. There is a special, specific herbal note that unfortunately I can not name. Yeast spreads, is clearly sour in the aroma.
    • Taste
In the taste rather simply knitted. Pleasant and round, sweet, honey and chocolate. The oak is there too.
    • Finish
In the finish rather short, sweet and tanninreich. Sweet honey.

    'Life's too short'

N: Iv'e come across this nose before, a nose oozing butter malt - Bladnoch 10 F&F very possibly. Massively creamy with some underlying herbal bitters i associate with Speyside malts, although technically Glen Garioch is an Eastern Highlands distillery.

T: Rugged fruity, honeyed, malty arrival.  Old fashioned dram, no frills, no designer effects, straight down to business.
F: Honeyed fruits continue to blossom, very oaky - fairly honest stuff.

C: Hmm, its nice but life's too short

    Scores a C
