    Followed by January 2016
    • Nose
Menthol, mint, salt, pepper, smoked ham, smoked salmon, toffee, salted chocolate, hints of vanilla. The minty freshness in the nose goes perfectly with the nature of the smoke and the sweetness in the background.
    • Taste
strong onset, smoke, smoked meat, smoked bacon, tingling on the tongue, salt and pepper (much of it), mainly sour, dry and spicy. Seaweed. Mineral. Over time, but toffee and the whisky is creamy. Tea. For later swallowing citrus note (lemon zest), raisins, toffee.
    • Finish
Smoke! In the beginning salt disappears quickly. Smoked meat. Seaweed, warming spice of the smoke lingers for a long time. Some pepper. Very pleasant.

    Still THE BEST!!!
    • Nose
Sea spray, peat smoke. Stings the back of the nose.
    • Taste
Peaty dryness like gunpowder tea. As the palate develops, oily,
grassy, and, in particular, salty notes emerge.
    • Finish
Peat fire. Warming. A bear hug.

  4. Igor scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Fine balance and complexity wholly, only lacking in expressiveness a little maybe.
    • Nose
Soft sweet prunes in front, stewed fruit (plum), hint of Irish cream liqueur, wafting cinnamon oil, sour cherry compote, creamy maltness, some kind of wild sweet-scented plant or bush, vanillic peat, evident sherry note, plus accidental whiff of clay. There's a lively, zesty-warm element too, that zings gaily in the whole ensemble of flavours. Quite complex yet subtle nose this, with carefully intermingled scents and an ever-changing essence. It dries out a bit, transforming into grist and malted barley, wood chips, sapwood, appley yeast, vanillin/custard powder. A tad vinegary then, vegetation, confect (hah!), lemon curd, a drop of lime juice. But the lightness, tenderness?.. almost too soft for Lagavulin. Yep, untypically.
    • Taste
Instant sweet arrival, treacle toffee, oily, sooty, peat-smoke, citrussy nip of an orange, bitter grapefruit, orange peel, then herbaceous, astringent, drying and acidic, referring to sour grapes, sour apple, avocado?, sour guava pulp, lime fruit, salty lemon twist. Coffee bitterness (espresso?) and dark chocolate pervade at last, having briny citric acidity in tow.
    • Finish
Thick, intensely rich peat, turfy, woody dryness, really interesting drying effect, accompanied by citric acid, marine saltiness, zest/rind, lemon pith, pistachio nuts, salted peanuts, acrid tobacco, dry leaf/herb. Rather long, steadfast, lasting aftertaste, which certainly lingers for long.

A full whisky for those who like something but not too smoky.
    • Nose
      Peaty, very pleasant.
    • Taste
      Full flavor, smoky notes, vanilla.
    • Finish
Long, pleasant finish. Lasts for a long time.
