Whisky Reviews for Dailuaine 1973 DD

- An excellent whisky just the right amount of sherry so it does not over power the profile.
Fruit, mulled wine, , orange liqueur, Christmas cake, black cherry & blackberry conserve. a touch of liquorice.
Good mouthfeel, not too thick, not too thin, creamy chocolate, caramel, cherry again, some meat notes.
- Fruity and spicy aroma, heather honey, raisins, melon, plums, stewed apples, cinnamon, orange, vanilla, furniture polish and malt. Vanilla sweet taste, mint, ginger, vanilla, cardamom, hops and malt. Long, spicy, fruity and malty end.
- A very beautiful dram. I expected perhaps more complexity of a whisky of this age, but it remains a digestive more than honorable and shows a nice balance.
Sherry, sherry, sherry, but rather light and delicate. Of those who speak about prunes, dried figs, hazelnuts and a full bar of milk chocolate. The wood also brings fragrant notes of cedar. Aeration does not change this profile, but allows it to grow in size and power. With water: it works well, the aromas melt and all wins smoothly. A slight tangy tangerine note appears.
Dryer than the nose, it expresses itself on fruits macerated in alcohol (plum, but also grapes). The woody brings a solid structure without ever becoming dominant. The alcohol is noticeable but not so much as to mask the aromas. With water: it works less well than the nose. Alcohol is less present, but an aqueous sensation is emerging.
Long and hot, it develops a pleasant bitterness of dark chocolate dipped in coffee before prunes and raisins come back in strength, all marrying harmoniously.
- Certainly a good whisky but nothing really exciting for me.
Smooth and nicely sherried. Dried fruits, fruitcake and honey.
Smooth and sherried with white pepper. Balanced, must have been a good sherry cask.
Medium long, with sherry and some herbs coming up. Becomes slightly bitter and quite herbal after some time. Not as good as the taste.
