N: Relatively young and light in colour but strong in abv, peppery and creamy, plenty of robust grain with a touch of fresh oak on show. Its cleary a cask strength bottling and has all the vibrancy of a single cask, i.e. lots of ethanolic power. Theres some oiliness here, a touch briny, dry grasses, and overall a light & sweet honeyed varnish. Doesn’t change with time even given an hour. Its fairly closed, or possibly not a great deal here. Nice though - feels like its coming from a good place.
T: A turbulent [up & down] honey varnish arrival. Its more consolidated with water, with rich, runny, milk chocolate-honey and lots of grain and oily wood which coats the tongue beautifully. Theres plenty of bitter~sweet interplay, the bitter notes coming through more dominantly going into the finish. Theres not much variation but its an invigorating ride. Plenty of [spirited] youthfulness here.
F: Fresh green grist and herbs [marjoram and rosemary], the bitterness easing off to let in the mild/sweet grassy grain and chocolate milk/cocao. Dryish, nut husk & woody finish with a wisp of smoke. The finish sees the oak finally tackling the spirit, concluding with a wonderful seesaw movement.
C: Definitely needs water otherwise its too ‘edgy’. Give it time, not for the nose but for the husky/chocolate/cocao notes that come to balance out the bitterness. Good finish, and a good grain [if a little pokey].
