[October, 2020] I had this dram during a local community tasting "blends only".

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85. My notes state a balanced and flawless profile with much more peaty Caol Ila flavours than previous batches both in the nose and on the palate. Easy quaffable but way too expensive...

Nose and palate have something. The departure, however, is virtually absent.
    • Nose
Malty sweet, pastry notes, honey, hay, herbs, a dry summer meadow, quite alcohol in the nose, a lot of spice with subliminal a bit smoke, behind a mixture of ripe red and yellow fruits
    • Taste
Creamy sweet, very pleasant on the tongue, but virtually no appetite, really very creamy, honey again, with time, then a little Pfeffrigkeit comes through, that could again be the light smoke, the second sip is then watery but with more oak occupied
    • Finish
Sweet oak and then that's it ... He's gone quickly ...

      medium-long finish

N- Light honey, malt, gentle oak, whisp of peat, slight sherry sweetness.
P- Brine, smooth oak spice, white pepper
    F- Medium, oak and honey

Blended wonderfully and multi faceted, designed to be elegant and appealing. Just overpriced

    • Nose
      88 88
light smoke note, fruity with hints of exotic, sweetish, oak, raisins, vanilla, pleasant ...
    • Taste
      87 87
Slightly tingling, trace of smoke, light spice, oak notes, some fruit and sweet, slightly alcoholic
    • Finish
      87 87
with oak, however, not bitter, slightly sweet-tart, at the end slightly malty-sweetly soft and harmoniously fading.

Can not understand the sometimes bad grades for the Blue Label. Probably has something to do with bad reputation like Macallan and Glendfiddich. In my opinion, the blue label is a very good whiskey. The price is definitely too high, but the whiskey can't help it.

      Spices, cloves
    • Taste
      very complex, sweet, soft

Little more complexity than newer versions but something lacking in this one.
