A very interesting American Rye. I like the port wine finish, the combination of rye and wine barrel aging works well for me. He is special. Not for every day and every person. You have to like rye.
    • Nose
      85 85
The rye is immediately present in the nose, typical fresh mint notes and fresh bread dough. But also fruity and sweet - ripe red berries with nice fruit acidity. Nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves - almost a little Christmassy. Lightly candied violet flowers with a dash of orange jam. Little to notice of the alcohol, the 47% are well integrated. With a drop or two of water the rye changes. The alcohol is indicated by a slight stinging sensation in the nose. The mint note recedes and a nice vanilla appears.
    • Taste
      85 85
A nice soft, creamy mouthfeel. Quite sweet on the tongue with a fruity touch, red berries but also some raisins. Then it quickly moves on to the spicy side - with lots of cinnamon and nutmeg. The menthol/mint content is also present in the mouth - together with the fruit there is a nice association of mint chewing gum with a cherry/berry flavor. You notice the alcohol more now, it's noticeably drier and astringent on the palate. With the addition of water, the taste goes towards a fruity-sweet mint candy. The spiciness decreases and the sweetness and fruit harmonize more.
    • Finish
      84 84
It remains spicy and now gets more support from the oak. Lots of After Eight and also grapes towards the end. The finish is rather short to benevolently medium short. Get away quickly and the way is clear for the next sip. Sweet!
