Finishing an old sample. Great nose and tasty mouth, though less complex. Still an excellent whisky.
    • Nose
Waxy and fruity with citrus (oranges and such) and light tropical notes. A touch of vanilla. Sawdust. Coastal and slightly smoky. Some herbal notes too.
    • Taste
A bit oily. Peat smoke and pepper. Oranges, oak and a few ashes. Coastal notes. Nicely sweet and sour.
    • Finish
      Long, peppery and salty.

Here, everything is more melted than in the previous version. It's less fiery and more linear (if I may say so). It is still high level of course, but less explosive. We find a wiser peat, it's more closed, fatter too. We are on a thicker malt, more "syrupy" Of course, a syrup like that, we want more!

  4. Bishlouk scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Nose: Pepper, vegetal freshness, minty. Dust. Cooler (but dry anyway) than the 2004 batch. The freshness fades, letting the dry dust dominate. Palate: Sweet. Syrup less vivid. Salt swells and becomes dominant. Syrupy. Finale: The pepper tumbles. Hot spices. Fresh vegetables come back. Verdict: Less incisive and less powerful than the 2004 batch, more melted, perhaps more subtle and less "fit inside". Very good, but he misses the slap in the mouth. 89/100 . (Note made in the context of a face to face of all Talisker 25y in barrel.)

Well balanced, dry and classic. What's not to like?
    • Nose
Paper, barley, black pepper, a bit young (?), a dash of peat, vanilla.
    • Taste
Wow, the usual "Talisker explosion" with a combination of peat, wood, black pepper. Quite dry.
    • Finish
      Leather, liquorice, salt, vanilla.

Beautiful Talisker. All typical Talisker flavors come to perfection.

  7. megabreit scored this whisky 92 points Expert Junior

Great whisky with a furious glowing finish.
    • Nose
Dark fruits (cherries?), Slightly burnt sugar, moist warm wood A powerful appearance in the nose, very pleasing
    • Taste
Caramel and cooked cherries, slightly peppery with a fresh herbal note
    • Finish
Drying in the finish without losing the fruity notes. A touch of hot, dusty attic is noticeable.

The best Talisker I've had in my glass so far. Incredibly complex and complex.
    • Nose
Notes of oak, orange and tangerine, seawater and salt, nutmeg and some smoke symbolize the variety and complexity of the aroma.
    • Taste
Now add to the sweetness of fudge and red grapes fresh, spicy notes: citrus, cloves, wood and some maritime flavors.
    • Finish
In the wonderfully long finish I find liquorice, mint, cardamom, chili, salt and spicy oak. A very light acidity is also to taste.

I adore it and I love the fruity and delicate nose! 10 & 18 are good and I really appreciate them but (imho) this is in a another dimension! One of my favorite by far! Simply sublime nectar! Slangeva :)

A great, multi-layered nose, she always changes like a chameleon. In the taste it falls off for me a bit too dominant is the chili-catch, which of course has its appeal, but the complexity suffers. The finish rips it out again, long and filigree he goes and leaves long beautiful memories. He gets 92 solid points. Notes from an online chat tasting
    • Nose
Well, that's something different right away. Super rich he comes straight sweet and dark fruity. After a while, the typical Talisker distress comes along and the smoke is now there. Interestingly, cold phenolic. Salt is strewn over it, the fruit notes are beguiling. Papayas, watermelons. Now, much later, the fruit notes go away and mineral notes take over the field. Nevertheless still sweet and powerful, very different from the 18s. Heated, it wins again significantly in depth and complexity, he pulls you into the glass, so to speak. There is now so much, too much to list everything, it will serve all directions including acidity and ammonia, but always so discreet and well integrated, that nothing bothers. A really nice nose! Mh, the nose did it to me really. This time he greets me with cinnamon, anise and marjoram ...
... This time, the ammonia bothers me a bit, but that's complaining at a high level.
    • Taste
Jo, that's chili. So much more pep than the 18-year-old. At the first sip, the chili-catch pushes everything else away so that the taste identification is only possible on the finish. The second sip goes. Dark malty sweetness, again a lot of rock, but now also clear barrel, only a little sour but for teak loading the oak comes; Tobacco and leather. I can not find salt here.
    • Finish
Slowly he goes, it develops a clear acidity and now it is also salty. Sweetness can only be guessed at here, he is definitely astringent.
