[May, 2003]  I had this dram during an "Old 10 Years" tasting at Bonn-Mehlem.  In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this dram 85.  The first bottle served was corky but had a more interesting nose (besides the cork) on tropical fruits (mangos, passion fruits, guava) than the substitute bottle.  The colour is old gold with a rather light oily texture (the first bottle was more oily).  The nose is rather one-dimensional on a strong banana-driven profile as is the body.  I never had this before with a Laphroaig...

25 years ago the Laphy 10 was my first single malt.

As they say; you'll love it or hate it!

I loved it then, still do today.

So much said, it's lost some of it's edge over those years.

This bottle (L01887) was filled about 1999.

At these times this 10 yo Laphroaig was more rich than nowadays.

It's a good and basic Islay Whisky with its own charming character. Everybody should have tasted this one!

    Huge atmosphere, distinctive character:

at certain times, moods and occasions there may be no other single malt but this one to drink.

Not really complex, not very oaky (but some), a lot of peat smoke (typical Laphroaig flavor) and little fruit - but this is about the whole thing; this whisky is a great reminder of that matter!

I bought it about 1997, when the price was as low as the actual version.

When tasted the new version I'll add a note that compares the two versions.

In every case a special colour of Single Malt -

    worth to have a bottle!
