[July, 2022] A quick note of a sample...

...which is a rather weaker old Mortlach from leached casks, most probably. Still nice to quaff but by no means worth the heavy bucks requested. There a myriads of better old Mortlach drams out there (almost all from Gordon&MacPhail too).
    • Nose
      89 89
The colour is chestnutoloroso sherry and the nose is rather unimpressive for such an old dram that offers subtle notes of dry sherry only with some herbs and spices. Both the wood and the fruits are very shy which is rather unusual for a 1966 vintage (that are very fruity across the board of almost all distilleries).
    • Taste
      89 89
The taste is simple and shy on some chocolate flavours (both milk and dark) with some fruits and honeys only. The waxes and oils are very low for a Mortlach. After some chewing the spices join in. No flaws but no highlights either.
    • Finish
      87 87
The mouthfeel is warming and just a little coating with borderline bitter-astringent moments. The finish is of medium length and adds no new impressions but it dries out towards the end on tannins. Water is not recommended.
