I am really impressed by the complexity on the nose and palate. It delivers as much coconut as an old Springbanks and really have personality and character. Love it!

    (Rating interval 86-89)
    • Nose
Dried dark fruits, coconut, caramel and toffee, vanilla toffee is the first thing that come to mind. Oloroso sherry influences (of course) with spicy cinnamon and nutmeg and loads of coconut that become even more pronounced after some water.
    • Taste
It arrives kind of sweet with caramel and toffee. Raisins and prunes are coming through on the development. There are some heavy rum-like notes, molasses based rum, rum-rasin ice cream. There is also some milk chocolate and sherry vinegar that goes into the finish. Water makes the development a little bit more sour and bring some dried apricots and coconut into the mix.
    • Finish
The finish is dry with sherry vinegar and cracked black pepper together with raisins, brown sugar or molasses. It becomes drier far back on the tongue with water and bring less pepper and more sherry notes to the finish. Even the coconut comes through on the finish with water but very subtle.

Starting from the obvious comments: it’s a very interesting experience tring a full alcoholic content (53,7%) single cask (sherry butt), chosen and bottled by Malt of Scotland, so as a result of high expectations.                                                                                       Different is the TAMDHU one, young enough (12 years), complex and powerful but the alcoholic content and the woody note does not allow to exalt the valors however…
    • Nose
The olfactory parameter stands on four pillars not equally represents: spices, wood, alcohol and fruits.                                                                                                                The main head of the smells is represented by spices like the black pepper and cumin, helped by the alcoholic percentage that is too much pungent sometimes.                        The tail is represented instead by yellow mellow fruits ( Williams pears and apples) and by a rude wood smell.
    • Taste
The alcoholic percentage is not strongly perceived into the mouth, and surprisingly the fruity notes grows up with a taste of yellow mellow fruits (there again pears and apples and also rot banana maybe) with a mixture of dried fruits, dried almonds and walnuts.             At last few flavors of fresh cooked bread with currant and sherry.
    • Finish
Quick enough and not persistent final, concentrated on a dualism between the sherry and the yellow mellow fruits.

So how do you rate a whisky that is just great to drink (87), but not complex or briljant in the finish (80). Just rate in between?
    • Nose
Raisins, very sweet. Sugarcandy and a big nutty feeling. After a while cream, butter and caramel.
    • Taste
Not much difference from the nose. Again a lot of nuts. Almond and chestnuts. Also some chocolade. Really reminds me of a dutch product called "Duo penotti". Also a very creamy caramel character. Hmm this time it's a kind of candy called "werther's Original". I'm gonna stop before someone thinks I work for them.
    • Finish
Little bit dry in the finish. Short and not the best part.

     relatively low in price
    • Nose
sweet fruit but not that  complex
    • Taste
      some tropical fruit
    • Finish
      a nice and gentle finish

    • Nose
Very creamy sherry. Also perfumy at first, but that doesn't stay long. Butter caramel candy, vanilla pudding pastry with powder sugar, toffee, eucalyptus, plum and orange. With water more fruity (peach) and clearly less creamy.
    • Taste
Caramel candy (Wehrter's), vanilla, eucalyptus, cloves, orange and plum. Also here peach instead when adding water, as well as a little sashimi.
    • Finish
Toffee, plum, orange, peach, vanilla, nutmeg, eucalyptus and balloons (yes, balloons).
