It's a Sherry Bomb, you can not go wrong. But it is too crude, too unpleasant ... difficult to make a place against "rivals" of another level type A'bunadh especially on sometimes lower prices.
    • Nose
We are clearly on Sherry, between A'bunadh and Glendro. It contains plum, some flowers, exotic fruit and even a very slight smoke. We still stay on a whisky marked Sherry, very "vinous" and suffers.
    • Taste
A powerful attack, aggressive ... it lacks finesse. Then always with this side Sherry Bomb we find the spices, pepper and woody oak. The finish is lighter and oily.
    • Finish
We are on the wood with the spices that intermingle without really finding their place. Then comes the coffee that stays in the mouth. What Else?

Medium long, warm, spicy, leathery notes, woody, tannic, a tad bitter

In my opinion casknr. 72323 and 105092 are the best of all Ultimate Longmorns.

I love all Longmorn Whiskys from The Ultimate. I myself have 1 to 3 bottles of each cask and there are 8 different barrels. The Cask Strength Longmorn and Tamdhu are so far one of my favorites!

I am usually not a huge fan of the Sherry Bombs, but this was a really pleasant surprise.

Lots of sherry on the nose, but not the sickly sweaty pungent pinch that usually follows the big sherries. I get the christmas feeling and oh joy what a feeling.

Big ABV but still carries nicely neat. There are raisins, plums, figs, cinnamon and strangely some peaches out there. Round and velvety. Leaves me wanting more.

    Nice full balanced finish.

Nose: we’re in big sherry land here. Colour reveals it but the nose is screaming : first fill. Sherry. Getting sulphur too, spice and a certain caramel feeling old school caramel candy.

Palate: boom! That’s some huge sherry here. abv. 55% and up if I’m not mistaken. Lots of sugar , rum soaked cherries , sultanas. Again sulphur and big XMAS cake feeling. Pepper and clove. Love that.

Finish: Dried fruit with bitter notes of espresso and wood. Cherries. And cigar leaves.

Based on a blind sample. Great finish, but nose and taste are a bit too hearty for my tastes. Still a solid sherried whisky.
    • Nose
At first a bit gluey and sulphury. The hearty smells subside after a while and the sulphury smell, while still present in the background, is balanced out by whiffs of blackcurrant, caramel and dried orange peel.
    • Taste
Sweet, very oily and intense, but a bit sharp initially. Sherry obviously. Spices like cinnamon and cloves.
    • Finish
The spices last in a long and subtle and very tasty finish with a hint of licorice.

New notes, but this time from a blind tasting. Didn't like it as much as I did earlier this year. I changed my rating to 87 instead of 89.
    • Nose
An obvious sweet sherry influence with fudge, caramel, chocolate , dried red fruitsand cherry flavored candy canes. It has a spicy edge with cumin and nutmeg. There's also a dusty quality and a slight copper smell.
    • Taste
Spicy and fiery. Black pepper and nettle. The palate is a bit dry and there are some oak flavors. Dark bitter chocolate. Not much of the sweetness left, maybe some strawberry.
    • Finish
Long, sweet. Some milk chocolate, spicy and something sour.

    blind tasting BTC 2014 - #1
    • Nose
dry sherry, earthy, orange, fruity, cherries and Glühwein
    • Taste
full with spices, orange, pastry and fruity
    • Finish
      orange, fruity -mandarins and mint

with water more sweet sherry and raisins

The addition of water and aeration improves some sensations. We are getting closer to profile # 72318 but with a more complex and catchy nose.
    • Nose
We are on a profile close to # 72315 but less brutal. On this version appear phenolic and medicinal characteristics previously absent. There is also a trace of smoke.
    • Taste
The texture is more oily and covering. The development is however more linear and less demonstrative. The mouth is clearly below the nose.
    • Finish
A bit short. Bitterness and sourness.

  21. Bishlouk scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A nice nose, but the mouth and the finish are monolithic and quite flat. All in all, the quality is equivalent to that of drum 72318.

(note made as part of a F2F of the 7 Longmorn 1996 The Ultimate)
    • Nose
Close to the 72315 and 72319 barrels at the level of odors, with a hint of camphor and dry grass. A soft and linear nose.
    • Taste
Sweet / peppery / salty. The fruits are somewhat overshadowed by pepper, very present.
    • Finish
Quite short on a slight fruity bitterness.

    • Nose
Very sweey from the get-go, dark chocolate, amazing dried red fruit, forest fruits, berries and some wet barley. It’s a lovely and soft nose, no sharpness at all, which is surprising because of the high abv.

  25. Xstream scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Sherry, mocha, milk chocolate, hazelnut, raisins, coffee, orange, marzipan, pepper, chili, cinnamon and something buttery and creamy in the finish together with the peppery spices.

I like the creaminess and mocha / chocolate flavors. The spice is just a tad too much. It just feels a bit unbalanced to me somehow, even the base flavors are insanely good, it just doesn't seem to come together for me.

  26. KayMeertens scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

I've tried four different ones from this series and this is clearly the spiciest one.
    • Nose
Raisin, mocha, tobacco, cinnamon, clove, prune, orange, roasted chestnut, cranberry, toffee and apple syrup. Somewhat meaty due to a slight whiff of sulphur. After a while raspberry.
    • Taste
Sherry with a lot of spice. Cinnamon, cloves, pepper, spice cake, raisin, cranberry, prune and tobacco.
    • Finish
Raisin, dark chocolate, tobacco, jute and a whiff of smoke.

  27. Donat scored this whisky 84 points Member Senior

Light on the sherry side, maltier than expected.
Very spicy with some off notes (little sulphur on the nose).
Good value for the money though.

    n: dark coffee, raisins, cinnamon.

t: raisins are back, apple, pepper.

f: a little meaty, long and dry sherry finish.[ big smile ].

    magical dram....

really great Longmorn! The color is very dark (almost coffee).
It`s a real creamy sherry whisky. With hints of coffee, dark chocolate, raisins and so on..
