Whisky Reviews for Port Ellen 1977 Sc

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.36 points

  1. hs305 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

[November, 2002]  I had another dram during a Prof. Schobert "Islay" tasting at Rolandsbogen. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 87,5.
My notes state an average blonde colour and a few very late legs and tears (oily texture at the glass).  The nose is on a medium peaty profile.  It arrives on the palate soft and rounded with some biting moments.  The taste is fresh and sweet with some peaty flavours but it lacks a rich character.  The finish is of medium length.

According to Prof. Schobert this cask most probably matured on the mainland and not on Islay.

  2. hs305 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

[October, 2000]  I had this dram during a Port Ellen rarities tasting at
    Rolandsbogen.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 90
points.  Unfortunately no additional notes were taken.By the way, at this tasting you could buy this excellent Port Ellen bottling https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/1927/port-ellen-1981-tb for 189 Deutschmarks
(95 Euros), or this breath-taking Brora https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/2388/brora-1981-tb for just 10 Deutschmarks more (99 Euros).
