In 2023, I spotted that bottle by chance on the internet at a dealer. 1989-2015, so 16 years old, independently bottled Old Pulteney for 69 euros? I had to have it and try it. What a fine piece!!

Very light for 16 years of maturation. Hmm? But the nose is really pleasant, full of grain and sweetness. Delicate light fruits like pear/lemon. And then this great woody note from an oak barrel that has certainly been filled several times. Fresh, maritime. Very good start.

Alcohol perfectly integrated. Great, the great mixture of sweetness and subtle oak. No bitterness. Confirmation that the old barrels from the 80s/90s had a different quality. The dram becomes spicier in the 2nd and 3rd slip. You can tell that it is no longer young. Exclusive at that. High standard!
    • Finish

The nice thing is that the character of the distillery remains so present. It is slightly salty and dry. For me, there is no sherry cask in it, but rather a cask from a very distant time. The finish is medium-long. Coastal malt with no frills. Delicious!
