  1. St. Pauli Plus scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

It's a very good whisky, with great balance brought by what I think is refill wood. It's waxed, apply, a bit malty, but all well-behaved.

Indeed, this smells a bit dusty, like old style whiskies (and this is an oldie indeed...). Not too much sherry influence, at least not a bold one. It's rather mineral, with red apples, and a fair amount of mixed nuts. Later, polished leather and furniture polish reveal themselves. Then, some green herbs like dill and chive pop up. Rather awkward maybe, but it works here.

Rather refill-like, with enough influence of the distillate. Apples and orange juice, and a malty base. Then the wood speaks louder with vanilla, caramel, cardamom, even a bit of liquorice root, and ample polished furniture. Finally, some salted almonds.

Rather long and oaky, but not with the bitter and dry side of it. Instead, it's the polished, waxy side combined with stewed apple, caramel and salted almonds. It works very well.
