Harmonious and mild, powerful and voluminous, peaty and fruity ... This DE is wonderfully harmoniously balanced and for me the best Lagavulin DE I've ever tried!

    23/23/23/23 (92P)
    • Nose
Creamy caramel shines in the Premium Snifter, oily legs pull their greasy tracks on the glass wall, and intense peat smoke rises. Mild and fruity, peat and slightly mineral smoke come together, raisins and caramel are added, abrasion from old orange peel in combination of lemons and grapefruit give off their sour aroma. Iodine, algae, seaweed and salt water give the Laga a wonderful maritime touch, grilled apricots play with pork belly fat soaked in butter, charred wooden elements emerge slightly smoky. Tobacco and leather are minimal, and suddenly my saliva is stimulated.
    • Taste
The first sip flows mildly and fruity through the palate, gradually peat and smoke are added, burnt wood and fly ash leave a pleasant tingling on the tongue. A slightly sharp film sticks greasily to the tongue, salt and pepper massage the tip of the tongue, and ashy streaky bacon and grilled fruit emerge. Citrus fruits end in sea salt and seaweed, iodine and mineral smoke followed by warm peat and earthy notes, a few dashes of espresso and lemon juice are added, roasted hazelnuts and dry leaves rest on the palate. Caramel and a touch of toffee, oranges and apricots, creamy fruit elements merge with smoky peat and maritime influences.
    • Finish
Warm peat and a hint of mineral smoke rest creamy on the palate before creamy, dried grapes and berries are added. Charcoal, salt, earth, dried fruits, citrus aromas, caramel and hints of fried bacon allow the aftertaste to rest on the palate for what feels like an eternity.
