  1. JoshNRW scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Tobermory (a very well-working distillery), 18 years old, drinking strength and bottled over ten years ago. It's hard to imagine that I can only achieve the current average rating of under 87 points.
And although the nose is slightly to slightly more than slightly sulphurous, for once I actually don't find many more points here.
The sulfur doesn't bother me that much, but the problem here is that the sherry and the distillate no longer reach the nose.
The entire mixture still seems harmonious and I like it, but other flavors are not clearly identifiable. At least in the nose. But it's not a sulfur bomb either.

To start, a nice soft blend of subtle but noticeable sulfur. A slightly oily Tobermory distillate and then some spicy sherry. But this mild sulfur is still too dominant.

Almost the same thing on the palate. A nice, balanced whisky, but you have to like sulfur. The 46 percent and the 18 years harmonize well with the barrel and the age. The flavors alone are a bit one-sided. A sweetness of medium ripe plums and no tartaric acid. I like it.
    • Finish
      88 88
The distillate is good and high quality. Age appropriate. The finish is medium long, almost long and actually very good. The sulfur is least present here and it could also be an 18 year old Oloroso whisky at drinking strength. That totally fits. At least 88 points.
