My first encounter with a soapy Bowmore, something i've heard about but never tried, something I have looked forward to for some time, lets see how it stack up with other Bowmore

    Color: Maple syrup

Nose: Initial nose was dominated by strong "soapy" scents of very sweet tropical fruits, mainly mango and slightest papaya, a solid, sweet, and milky tropical fruit nonetheless. However, such profile is rather artificial that reminds me of cheap mango puddings/jelly that is in those small plastic cups you'd get as a child. With some time, some herbal and floral flavors began to develop as the soapy scent takes a step back. With some water, the soap again takes a step back, giving way to elegant floral profiles with chocolate, caramel, and honey sweetness in the background following the soapy notes

Palate: Initial sip is dominated by soap flavors, period. It was clear that the spirit needed more time to express itself since its was quite shy. With a little bit of time, soap persist with more complexity as different earthy notes can be spotted underneath the soap, in line of Chinese medicine and licorice that would be followed by wood scents. With water, oh my the complexity finally began to develop with the soap giving way. Sour raisin (presumably green grape), chocolate, caramel, followed by some spices. The peat is also showed up in the gentlest, Bowmore-est fashion at the back end of the palate, breathing out those peat smoke after eat sip.

Finish: Long and warm, a good mixture of the peat and the remaining artificial mango pudding that is left from the soapy profile.

It is a special type of whisky, there's no doubt. However, I cannot shake the link between soapy flavors within the whisky with artificial profiles, which is one dissatisfaction i have.
